Re: Buffers

i love my Porter Cable 6" random orbital... picked it up with the foam pad and rubber disk for like $89 on sale at Lowes... foam pad is perfect for most people who want to use bonnets, but I ordered some pads/velcro applicators for different polishing/buffing/shining tasks.

Re: Buffers

I've been using a Meguiars G100/Porter Cable with Sonus pads. Much better results then I ever could have acheived by hand

Re: Buffers

I just bought one of these today for my tonneau from Harbor Freight... It's on sale for $19.78

specs....
Aluminum die cast handle for extra rigidity
High impact PVC housing
All ball bearing construction for smooth operation
Versatile 300-3000 RPM range for polishing and sanding
Spindle lock for easy pad changes
Universal 5/8''-11TPI spindle
Comes with 7'' hook and loop backing pad, foam pad, 60 and 240 grit sanding discs, terry towel, polishing bonnet
120V motor, 60 Hz, 9.8 amps

It even came with an extra set of brushes....

It made putting on the polish much easier, faster and with better results. It took me 4 minutes vs 30 minutes and I could never come as close to getting the polish to work as well as the buffer did. Plus I used much less polish. Now taking off the blackened polish still took the same effort as I didn't have something to put on the buffer to do this... ...

As for the variable speed, it is very fast and has excellent torque... I kept it between the minimum and the first notch.

I don't think I would use it for waxing my RL as I use the Ice stuff.... And now I use it when the vehicle is still damp after washing. Squirt it on all around the RL and go back with a micro fiber and wipe it down. No need to buff...

The polisher was purchased at Super Autobacs in Stanton, CA some time ago. The backing plate and pads were purchased on autopia car care's website.

Here's the link. The price I paid was due to a coupon flyer from the local paper. If there is a harbor freight near you they always have plenty of flyers at the door. The coupon was for $20.21 off. the coupon code is "44"

Re: Buffers

I have the Megs G100 also. Works great and will not scorch the paint. Any rookie can use it with great results and almost no risk. It also comes with a lifetime warranty.

Those units from Harbor Freight look pretty scary. They are 20 bucks for a good reason I'm sure.

Check out the Megs website they have a great forum with incredible information on detailing.

I'm not one to waste my money. It is a heavy duty unit and definitely not cheaply made. Well worth the money.
