Windshield cleaning question.

I got my new RL home and was detailing it and found that you cannot raise the windshield wipers up (all the way). Now maybe I am missing somethin. But I tried to raise them up with the hood down and up and it was a no go for the drivers side. I would think this would make wiper changes a little difficult also.

I know its not a big deal but thought someone here might have some incite on the issue.

Re: Windshield cleaning question.

I replaced my wipers not to long ago. The best way to change them, I found is with the hood up.

Re: Windshield cleaning question.

Turn the key on, rotate the wiper knob away from you, when the wipers reaches the high point, turn the key off...

You could also rotate the wiper knob towards you for one swipe across... The choice is up to you...

Exellent advice. Just don't forget to put the wiper back down against the glass before turning the key back on or you'll damage the paint on the hood.

Re: Windshield cleaning question.

I take off my hood every time I clean the windshield or change the wiper blades. Hood removal makes for much easier access.

The hood also makes a great sled in the winter for the kids!

Cool Re: Windshield cleaning question.

ChrisM: Yeah right, you take the hood off each time......and I am Madonna,...okay?

This reply is to Chip-mover....welcome aboard, some of our members are smarty pants....guess they want to break you in...."their way." Pay no attention...laugh it off...their just bustin' ya (and it is kinda funny/dumb what Chris said anyway). When I first went to clean my windshield I was annoyed that the wipers did not lift away like most "modern" vehicles (now I know why I have a slight chip at the top of my front hood....dealer shop must have nicked it with wiperarm prepping my truck for delivery)! What I did was installed a piece of chrome vinyl door molding (1/8"W) across the top of my hood. It added a bit more of the chrome look and now "IT" takes the wiper bang if it gets hit! Not my hood! If it gets banged up too bad, I'll pull it off and put another piece on....maybe black next time! Moral of story....Wiper does not pull away AND.....SAVE your HOOD with cheap trim, ............................................Don't take it off!

Re: Windshield cleaning question.

I removed my hood in order to save weight and get better gas mileage

and I must say that it does make wiper changes and windshield cleaning much easier!
