i use water and alcohol. . . .and a coffee filter. may sound odd, but works really well. if they are really dirty i'll put a few drops of joy in.

doesn't leave any residue on window, no film, helps not streak etc. . . .call me crazy but it works well.

I like using a terry cloth covered wax applicator sponge to clean and a microfiber to dry. The sponge really helps get into all the edges when cleaning the inside of the windshield.
