Windshield/Glass cleaning question

Okay guys. I've been fighting with this problem for a while now on both of my Hondas (Ridgeline and CR-V) and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I never had this type of problem before owning a Honda, so I don't know if it's because of the type of wipers they use or what, so here goes:

I have a constant problem with wiper marks and buildup on the windshield. At the point where the wiper stops, then changes direction, I'm getting the white-colored marks that make the wipers jump. On the CR-V, I'm getting black-colored marks in the same places where the white-colored ones are on the RL. I have tried different cleaners and have even taken a razor blade and scraped the windshield to try to remove all of any residue that might be there, but the problem persists.

What is this buildup and how can I remove it and prevent it from returning? The RL still has the stock wiper blades, but they are starting to streak just a little at times. The CR-V has Trico blades, which I used in the past on other brands of cars with no problem.

Any ideas?

Re: Windshield/Glass cleaning question

Try a product called Invisible Glass and after you dry the windshield with paper towels use a microfiber cloth to remove any residual cleaner.

Re: Windshield/Glass cleaning question

You might be getting some residual wax build up if you have been using the wax rinses at the car wash. I had the same issue when I used a particular car wash with my TL. Changed car washes and have not had it happen since. The Acura dealer actually told me what the issue was after replacing my wiper blades twice (@ no charge).

Re: Windshield/Glass cleaning question

I found Stoner's Invisible Glass at Wally World (WalMart). It's worked well for us to remove film that nothing else we tried would cut. Let us know if it solves this problem. This hasn't happened to us.

I too use Invisible Glass... I also like applying Rain-X, as well as use Rain-X brand windshield washer fluid...

Re: Windshield/Glass cleaning question

I've tried the Invisible Glass as well with no success. It works great on every other window, but it just doesn't seem to get everything off of it.

I thought about trying those alcohol wipes that you can use on computer monitors, along with the glass cleaner, but I haven't tried it yet.

I'm sure that the wax rinses at the car wash are part of the problem for the CR-V, but the RL hasn't been through one of those with me yet, so I don't know about that one.

Re: Windshield/Glass cleaning question

Kinda off topic. We had a problem with dog snot on the inside windows of our vehicles. Seems like once it dried it was impossible to get off. Windex won't cut it, just smears it around if you're lucky. However Armour All's Glass Cleaner cleans it right up.

For computer monitors and such, I mix up a 50/50 solution of rubbing alcohol and water. Works great.

My "tint" guys always use 50% water 50% alcahol (for no streaks) and 5 to 10 drops of dawn or joy dish detergent. It works fantastic!!!! give it a try

When you use SIG, let it set on the tough stuff. If I wipe right over bug splatter or something else, SIG won't take it off. If I spray the bad spots and wait 30 seconds or so they come right off.

And wiper marks can be taken out with a glass polish. My favorite is Zaino, but there are others. I always hated seeing those, even when the car was perfectly clean. Some Zaino polish and a PC will cut them. And honestly, most paint polishes probably would as well.
