Re: starter. It happens. Unfortunately you get to be our rare failure for the day. Good thing you get to use some of your extended warranty $$. Being a strange kind of guy, I would be upset if I paid for a warranty and never got to use it ;act028:

Re: dealer. I hope they just made an honest mistake on the expiration date. My gut tells me however that they were trying to sucker you to pay upfront so they would not have to wait for Honda's low-ball reimbursement for the same job.

Ok I admit it, bad attitude.

Trust me, I've been thinking about whether they were trying to scam me or not. I didn't buy it new, I bought it CPO from another dealership. I would like to think they were just being lazy and didn't check into it properly. But, I wouldn't put it past them, they don't have the best service rating and I know they'd rather have my cash than to wait to be reimbursed.

Normally I don't do extended warranties, but when we were signing the papers, they offered a full, extended warranty for a little over $1k. If we got it, they'd drop the interest rate from 3.65 (or something like that) to 1.9. Quick math told us that we'd save money by spending money. So far I've had a new O2 sensor installed, a new starter and a free tow to the dealership, all for free.
Had a similar experience with an extended warranty on my first Ridgeline (2006). I never used to buy these and still dont buy them on anything other than a car. Warranty paid for itself, so I purchased it again on the current 2012 RL. Have not needed it yet. If you plan to keep a vehicle past the regular warranty and as vehicles get more complex, it seems to make more sense to buy the warranty. A single post warranty service requirement can often pay for the warranty.
