That's interesting that the battery died, I never turn off my headlights, they turn off a few seconds after being locked, which is interesting because it beeps at you when you leave them on.

This is true, unless you leave the key in the ignition. If you remove the key, the lights will go out automatically after a set period (20-30 seconds, iirc). If you leave the key in the ignition with the lights on, the lights will NOT go out.

If you leave the lights on and remove the key but the lights never go off, then you have a problem with the system.

Having had my own moments of glory, I bought and carry one of these (and keep it charged) in my truck. While I haven't had to use it personally since I bought it, I've had multiple opportunities to help others (and it protects the truck electrics from accidents when jumping from vehicle to vehicle).

Costco has one that has less capability but in other ways is more user friendly (on/off switch, has its own charger cord, etc.) and for less money if you're a Costco member. Around $70-ish iirc. I bought one of those for my wife's car.
