Add Coolant To GEN II

I know I am old, don't see well, and over the hill, but just where in the hell would you look to locate the radiatior cap. Taking a trip through the Smokies and Blue Ridge Monday and Tuesday and checking out the RL before we leave and find no fill location if I happened to need coolant. I hope this is not a joke Honda is playing on us, I find nothing in the manual. Confused to say the least.:frown:

You need to take off the "engine compartment cover"...easy enough...facing the vehicle...lift up starting from the driver side and go across.:nerd:

Duncan remember the old late 70s early 80s slogan( Honda We Make It Simple)
Did somebody mention on here that the battery has it's own fan now to keep it cool?

Thank you very much. I am sure there is a reason for this.

I just looked at page 513 on owners manual. It shows the radiator cap to the left of the hood latch. The reservoir tank is further to the left. There is a compartment cover the sits along the grill. The manual states:

"The component parts in the engine compartment are protected by a cover.
You may need to remove the cover when you perform certain maintenance work. Pull up on the engine compartment cover, remove it from the pins."

Sounds crazy I know, but one thing I find with the newer cars is they like to make covers for everything... the engine is still the same, but they like to hide things. Maybe it's for airflow or they hope you bring it in for maintenance... who knows. :0)

Hope this helps.

Nothing surprises me any more Fred. Guess I best keep the toll free Honda service number available in case I have a problem on the road. Doubt that happens, 19 Hondas since 1981 and no problems other than a few recalls and 2 flat tires. I will give it a workout in the Smokies tomorrow and the Blue Ridge Pkwy Tuesday.

Wish Honda would go back to the original Ridgeline method of getting out the information with centrally located RL meets; the 2007 meet in St Louis was a great example. I learned more about the RL that weekend than before or since, plus meeting some of the nicest people and establishing permanent friendships. Most enjoyable weekend ever.

Agreed. The internet seems to have replaced all that now. That's good & bad of course, but always enjoy seeing folks help each other out on the forums too. I learned something today thanks to your question. Update us on how it goes!

Cheers,
Mike

Will not find it under the engine cover, although it is hiding. As you open your hood, find the blue cap of the windshield washer reservoir. Look directly below this blue cap (peek under the shelf that it sits in). You will see a white plastic bottle half-filled with pink antifreeze. That's it.

Correct, but you have to remove the black cover above it to access. They call that the "engine compartment cover". Not the cover that protects the engine itself.

My understanding was he wanted to check the servicing before his trip.
