Hi i'm new to the Forum i just bought a 2008 ridgeline at the auction ( could do not find any low millage for the money i have) so i bought this one , Vandalized, one of the issues is the airbag on the steering wheel is missing. I thought that i can buy that on ebay but... i guess no since is a recalled one . So any ideas where to get one other than the dealer?
Thanks.

Answer is NO. you need to get it from the dealer and I believe they have to program the ecu as well. I dont believe the truck will operate successfully with a missing/deployed airbag.

Nah - no communication between the airbag and the SRS module so nothing to program. The SRS module just looks for a certain resistance in the airbag (or a bypass resistor!!!) The truck will work fine without an airbag you'll just have an airbag light on and no airbag in a crash (obviously) but won't affect the operation of anything else.

At one time i might have bought an airbag from a third party like ebay or whatever. AFter all this Takata fiasco I would ONLY(!!!) buy from a dealer so you know your getting the newest and safest part. If you buy anywhere other than a dealer you have NOOOO way of knowing if you might have one of those defective or counterfeit airbags. BAD stuff happens with aftermarket airbags or so called "repaired" air bags. They usually don't even work they just have a cheater resistor to shut the airbag light off but won't actually deploy. STAY AWAY!!!

I realize you probably want to save money, but skimping on an airbag is not the area you want to do it. Who knows were the parts were sourced on eBay, given all the airbag recalls. If you have a dealer install, you should be pretty secure and safe in knowing a reliable, non-defective airbag is being installed.

I would agree, knowing how many have been recalled, I imagine there is a black market somewhere of people selling takata airbags that have been pulled out of cars from the recall.

A dealer airbag is ~$600?

Thanks to all, i did not find any one , even at LKQ witch i bough a ton of parts they are a very good company for used parts. Since the air bag was recalled no one is allow it to sell it i guess. So i will get it from the dealer.
