Another oil leak thread (with pictures)

I'm starting to leak oil on my 2006 and it's getting progressively worse. It's leaking about a half a quart every 3000 miles. Not major, but the fact that it's getting worse concerns me. It appears to be coming from the oil pan or something in front of the oil pan. There are no lights coming on. I appreciate anyone's opinion on where this might be coming from. I was going to change the oil pan gasket because it was the cheapest and easiest option.

I have an 06 as well and noticed the oil seeping. I thought drain plug was loose but after trying to tighten it and cleaning off the oil, the oil returned. My mechanic said it's the oil pan gasket and since it's only seeping and not dripping. We decided to leave it be.

I'm not 100% sure that you have a leak in your oil pan. From the pictures you took, that is the mounting spot for the AC compressor that's a part of the block. Thats the front of the truck so I doubt that oil is getting pushed there from driving, like it would if it was to the rear of the engine/oil pan.

Have you noticed the leak up higher? With the engine off and cool, run a finger or rag under the front valve cover, right above the front cat converter. See if you get any fresh oil... (I say fresh cause you will likely get some grease no matter what).

Just some quick random thoughts, the areas that could leak oil right above that area would be the valve cover gasket, the oil cap, the exhaust manifould (worse case scenario), and the head.

The oil pan is a little below that location with the drop of oil on it so I'm not real sure it's the culprit, unless you have been doing a lot of reverse driving.

I would spray it all down with brake clean and wipe it up, and then check it in a few min, that will give you a better idea of where it's starting to come from.

Hey Duffg,

My leak looks the same. See the other thread about "pesky" oil leak.
I had an oil leak from the oil pressure sending unit. Lots of oil all over the place. See this thread with some pics.

As can be seen oil on the oil pan. The oil sending unit is on the back of the engine near the firewall on the passenger side.
I had an oil leak from the front seal, and then the rear seal at around 100K miles.

I wonder if these fail quicker in severe weather areas? Anyone notice on previous reports of engine (crank) seal failures.... if they were mostly from cold weather areas?
Wonder if Jeb had any issues up in Yellowknife?
Thank you to everyone for your responses! It looks like I could be dealing with any of a handful of problems. I'm going to clean everything up this Saturday and wait a couple hours to see where the oil is coming from. I'll update everyone when I find out.

Whats posted here in this thread it looks like cold and hot areas to a point.
It Looks like it's could possibly be one of the main bearing side cap bolts. There has been a service news for years on this covering all compact v6 engines in Hondas and acuras. The fix once you can access the bolt is to remove it, clean it and the apply hondabond to the threads and re-torque to spec. It's very easy to be fooled that the oil pan gasket is leaking when you have one of these leaking.
Hi everyone. Sorry for the huge delay in getting back to you. I've been loaded up with a bunch of personal and work issues all at the same time. I checked the torque on the oil pan bolts and the ones to the front passenger side seemed a little looser than the others. I don't have a torque wrench, so this was by feel. The rest of the bolts didn't move when the same amount of pressure was applied. I'm not really sure if this slowed the leak or not. For the last three oil changes I've leaked about a half quart every 3000 miles. I'm not going to do anything about it right now. I plan on looking at the new Ridgelines when they come out and either buy one of those or get something else.
