Just received a notice from Honda that problems have occured with the Auto Stop engine shut down on 2021 Ridgelines. They are extending the starter and relay warranty to 10 years with unlimited mileage. This is good news. For those owners who would like to change the default setting for the Auto Stop to off, instead of the factory's on, there is a plug and play available from Idlestopper. It is an easy and quick solution.

As @fdeno stared, it has been out for several years...I put mine in as soon as I bought my truck. Took less than 10 minutes.

I suspect younger folks man not mind the start/stop....but having driven for 60 years now - when a car cuts off at a stop light my butt still takes up a silver dollar sized piece of the upholstery thinking something is wrong - I don't see me ever getting over it. Even when I'm next to car at a traffic light that cuts off (by design) I look over and wonder what is wrong.

Apparently the extended warranty fix for the Auto Stop/No Restart failure is a valve lash adjustment....I wonder how that affects tuning. I know on the solid lifter cars that I owned, as little as .002" in adjustment could change the performance depending on RPM...

My notice stated BOTH a software update as well as a valve adjustment. Since I use the idlestopper, I suppose I'm in line for the adjustment of the valve lash??

My letter only states a PGM-FI software upgrade which may take approximately 15 minutes. Only after the upgrade if you are experiencing a problem related to this condition, Honda may replace starter, relay and adjust the valves.

Just received the notice myself for my 2022 Ridgeline Black Edition, took it in for an oil changed, they updated the software. So far, so good

The Idelstopper was mod 1. Mod 2 was to deactivate the cylinder shutoff mode. A retired design engineer that appreciates that these mods can do more harm than any possible benefit. But I don't want to reignite any smoldering backlash. I just feel better knowing all bits are working all the time as intended.

Except now the bits are not working as intended because you are feeding incorrect information to the ECM. ;)

I too have a non plug and play default idle stopper. In fact I have 10 idle stoppers, although this is the one that I tend to use the most.

If the ECM is happy by allowing the engine to work the way it was intended when designed all those years ago, i.e., you start it once and shut it down once per trip thereby reducing the electrical and mechanical wear and tear on the engine and fuel system, then I'm happy in fooling it. As far as variable valve timing, please convince me how converting contributing cylinders to the overall hp supply into dead friction producers as air/vacuum pumps while requiring the other cylinders to put out more hp saves anything.
