'AWD Problem' message

Hoping I'm not alone on this one and apologies if I've missed previous posts on the topic (feel free to merge if necessary): I've twice had the center dash gauge read 'AWD Problem' in orange upon startup. The engine ran, however the message remained. The first time I restarted and everything went to normal, however a few weeks later it happened again and I had to restart twice to get it reset. Has anyone experienced this?

Me and a couple of others have had this message. This link has the report I used when I took mine in to dealer. Mine came and went once, then stayed on. I printed the description in the first post and took it with me to dealer. The fix is the same...wiring harness replacement. My harness is in and the truck goes in shop Tues. Hope the harness resolves it.

My dealer gave me the truck back to drive while waiting on the harness. Said it was ok to drive even with the error light on although I wouldnt have AWD. Still dont know if I believe that but guess its a moot point. Still wonder if I should open a case with Honda over this.

I had the same issue with my new BE at 20 miles total. Stopped at a light and as the traffic moved, I felt a slight shudder and the “AWD Problem” prompt came up; car seemed to run fine. Called the Dealer and they said the AWD shut down and the truck was now a FWD, but safe to drive. Into Service to be safe.

They said the issue was an “AWD Controller.” Came in the next day, installed, and 200 miles later – no problems. Not sure what an AWD Controller is, but found this on PickupTrucks.com, so it might have something to do with controlling the wet-clutch packs.

"Unlike its midsize four-wheel-drive competitors, there's no transfer case in the all-wheel-drive Ridgeline, so there's no driver involvement in selecting High/Low 4x4 mode. Instead, the Ridgeline driver pushes a button on the center console to select Mud, Snow or Sand as indicated in the display screen. Doing so activates preprogrammed algorithms designed by Honda engineers to let the Ridgeline's multitude of sensors and computers do all the thinking, making millisecond decisions on when, where and how much power to send to all four wheels to maximize traction.
The brains of the system is the i-VTM4, which controls an electronic rear differential and dynamic torque vectoring to send up to 70 percent of the 280 horsepower V-6 engine's 262 pounds-feet of torque to the rear depending on the traction needs. That power can be further split from zero to 100 percent left or right between the rear tires using computer-controlled wet-clutch packs that precisely control slip at the wheel. This gives the Ridgeline a big traction advantage over conventional 4x4s with open or limited-slip differentials."

Happened to me on mile 502 of a thousand mile drive home, truck less than a week old.

Will take it to one of my local dealers when I get back for warranty service, even though the warning went away.

Yeah, one of the Colorado dealers that are all still selling at full MSRP plus goodies plus outrageous "docs" fees.
I had all of the issues listed and after one unsuccessful trip to the dealer they said they had found a fix. They ended up replacing 3 different wiring harnesses that they said for some reason got wet and had shorting issues. This seems to have fixed the issue with the "AWD System Problem" warning light that I had several times and I have not had the strange issue with each set of warning lights cycling through again either. They needed my Black Edition for two days and gave me a rental to use.
I have the same problem , have you gotten it fixed !
