Beeps in Rapid Fire?

Still learning what all the burps and beeps of this 2017 RTL-T mean. Its like having R2D2 around but no one to translate!!!

So today at lunch i get out and i hear a rapid fire bunch of beeps. My windows were cracked, is this the car telling me they are cracked? Or is it something else?

Is there a Beep to English translation guide somewhere so i know what the heck its telling me?

That is your "Walk Away Locking" telling you it is NOT locking. If it is working "properly". That alert is saying, you left it running, or the trunk is open...etc. But it also fails a lot when it cannot detect the keyfob as you exit. There are varying degrees of satisfaction. For me, it rarely works properly and I wish Honda would allow the user to disable it. But you are stuck with that alert for life of ownership.

Here is a thread

Interesting thread....

Having had my Ridgeline for 1.5 weeks now the times i have noticed the Rapid Fire Beep is:
1. Car Running and i walk away from car to go back in the house to grab something i forgot
2. Window was cracked

I have not yet had it rapid fire beep for any other reason. There always seems to be a mitigating circumstance.

I will NOW be hyper aware of how my Truck talks to me!
I intentionally have not set the auto locking feature; don't want to use it. When I leave my house I drive 1 mile to the mailbox on my way to town. When I reach the mailbox I put truck in Park, leave the engine idling and walk over to get the mail with key fob in my pocket. If I close the door the RL beeps like crazy as I walk away. I assume it is telling me the engine is running. Try turning your engine off and walk away.

Yes the engine running/ beep scenario i assumed was just that. it was saying "Hey, you left me running".
The other time it beeped fast was when i left my windows cracked in the parking lot.

The beep for engine running is cool and i like the beeps. My ford edge did the same thing but it HONKED the horn twice. This drove my wife nuts as she thought i was honking at her when i was simply getting something in the garage!

I 'want' to believe the fast beeps are a properly implemented warning system and i just dont know all the reasons it alerts me.

Gonna go out to the parking lot now, start my car, crack the window, turn off the car and walk away....to test my theory.

Test over. Nope, not it. Cracked my windows and shut off the car and walked away. Just the normal beeps.

Hmm......

Will continue watching this.

Ah, correction on my part.
  • For Relock, you can only set to 30, 60, or 90 seconds (unless I breezed past some setting). Relock is when you unlock the door, but if you never open it, it will relock
  • For Walk Away... You can disable it... or you can silence the "successful beeps" but you cannot leave it enabled and just keep it silenced altogether. You have to deal with the beeps if it is turned on.

Sorry, I did not convey that properly the first time.

It's doesn't detect windows. There is no sensor for windows at all.

1) You cannot disable auto lock. Or in any way that I can see. You can only set to 30, 60, or 90 seconds (unless I breezed past some setting).
2) And Auto-Lock is NOT the same as Walk-Away locking. They are different. One relocks after no door is open. The other locks when you walk away.
Nervy,

This is really good clarification of the two. I was guilty of lumping them together.

Next time my car does the rapid beep i will lay my keys down at that place and go back and check what has or has not happened to the locks.

My 2014 Mazda 3 had walk away locking and i LOVE the feature. It spoils you. BUT if its not reliable in our RL's then there is a real problem...especially for those of us who leave loaded .38's in the truck!

Man you are all over this geeky stuff!! You Rock!

Do you secretly work at the Honda R&D center? :)
Ah but you quoted me too fast in post #9. I am slightly wrong. You can disable Walk Away, but you cannot mute the failing walk away beeps.

No, I'm not that geeky on it. It just drives me bananas and so I sort of know it... until I forget it in two weeks because my life is like the movie Memento so it seems. I can't remember jack squat.
The other day I was leaving with family to drive to dinner. After we pulled away I noticed the warning that the trunk was open. So I pulled over, went to the rear and sure enough it was open slightly. So, I shut it and pulled away again. Then light is back on, so I pulled over again. I went to the back and the trunk lid was partially open. So i shut it but this time I waited. A few seconds later it pops open. I shut, pop, repeat. I'm thinking something is broken. Then it dawned on me. I had placed my backpack in the trunk with my spare keys.

Problem solved. Don't do that.

Now that is a nice feature!
I honestly did not know that trunk feature even had a warning sensor attached to it.

I learned two things at Ridgeline University today!

Guys, this forum rocks and everyone is way cool. Once upon a time i was entertaining the 2016 Taco. I joined the forum right as they started hitting the streets. The members of that forum are arses and will eat you alive for the most benign of comments. I was shocked at how uncivil they were. Its like they were all 39 year old men living in the basements of their parents house, bitter, angry, jobless and itching for a fight.
Someone said in another post that the Ridgeline is a Gentleman's Truck. I agree but also like to add its forum is a reflection of its Gentlemen owners!
