First of all, their book doesn't go past 2005.

Then she says "no problem, I can figure out the vehicle class using the 2005 table."

Uh lady... it didn't exist in 2005.

"Okay, what is the value of the vehicle?"

Huh? You mean MSRP or what I paid for it?

"What's it worth?"

It's worth what I paid for it.

Geez... if Edmunds and every other automotive publication can update their files, you'd think a state Bureau of Motor Vehicles could...

Then I write the check for $200+

Yes, it IS fun to get plates in Indiana...

In Ohio, they simply need to know that it is a 1/2 ton pickup that will be used for non-commercial purposes. If I recall correctly, it was around 41 bucks total.

In some states, Minnesota included, you pay a tax on a value that is placed on the vehicle. It's a pain, but fortunately it is tax deductible.

sounds like the same in Indiana. Luckily for us, the dealer did the plates/title.
