Simply put, the Chevy Bolt is not the EV you want for taking long trips. You need to get something with longer range. I know it will cost more, but if you have your heart set on an EV, then pay the price and get one that will make more sense for extended road trips.

What happens when we are dependent upon adversarial countries for the rare earth metals necessary to produce the batteries, etc for EV's? I am not trying to be combative, as I would love to have an EV, but the reality is there.

I do have an EGO trimmer and a TORO battery powered lawn mower, but I dread the day I have to pay $200-300 for a single battery replacement.

For me through State Farm:

$44,000 Ridgeline = $64.44/mo.
$35,000 Miata = $61.89/mo.
$54,000 Model Y = $126.76/mo.
That's enough of a difference to disqualify the masses from converting to an EV right there.

I see reports of people jumping in on ordering the Model Y at the reduced pricing and they have a delivery date in February only to have it changed to mid-March. That would upset me if the federal rebate ends or is reduced during that time period.

@zroger is correct in his assessment. Basically, the government kicked the can down the road a few months on the implementation of the new rules for EV sales/rebates/etc. This article explains it fairly well for a layperson.

It will be interesting to see how dealers handle the rebates when they become point of sale rebates. Will the dealers offer a discount on the MSRP (when the economy turns down) and also offer the rebate amount as a discount to the MSRP, or will they simply lower the price of the vehicle by the rebate amount, hoping the buyers think they are still getting a deal?

After mulling this over for a week, I clicked the order button for a Model Y this morning. If it arrives before the $7,500 tax incentive ends then I'll take it; otherwise, I won't.
Did you get the white interior which you seem to prefer? :giggle:

I agree. One of the guys I work with has a Model S with the 20”s and low pro’s.
His wheels are really chewed up and like you said the ride is very stiff.

Most Tesla's are meant for two people in the front. The rear passengers better be on the smallish side and they better be ready for a rodeo in the rough riding second row. Nice performance automobiles, especially at the new "value" pricing.

The way things are going, GM might beat Tesla to market with EV truck:

I saw that mini-truck online. They are trying to gauge interest in the single cab orientation.

Interesting video on the fact that EV pricing is decreasing while the pricing on ICE vehicles continues to rise. Is it a plan on the part of legacy manufacturers to drive consumers into EV's? No wonder Honda, Toyota, and Subaru have eliminated base model trims. The average price of a Ford PU is $66K.

Something seems "off" about that video. I didn't know who that Ralph Macchio look-alike was until I saw it.

Rob mentions multiple times that one of the reasons he bought a Model Y was because of the $7,500 tax credit.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't meet the income limit requirements to qualify for the rebate.

The video was published on 1/20, but he didn't say when he ordered other than "this morning". If the video was published the same day meaning that he ordered his Model Y on the morning of 1/20 like I did, then he's unlikely to get it in time to qualify for the $7,500 credit.
He probably uses business tax write-offs to offset his income to get in under the income limits. That's one reason why so many YouTubers give away cars on a routine basis.
