The cold startup noise, as referred to twice:

My 2011 only did this in the coldest months of the year. I thought it sounded like an owl.

Haven't heard it. More importantly, I haven't heard of anybody else hearing a sound like that on startup in the cold.
I am glad it howled. Because that is an absolutely great shot of the owl !!
One of the videos stated it was the power steering pump. This will not be an issue on the G2 since it has electric steering and there's not pump driven by the engine, if that is actually the howling noise in the videos; that thread was TLDR.
As I recall the PS referenced noise was distinctly a different sound. Within those links someone once posted audio clips, side by side of the two sounds. I never knew (or cared) of its source, mine gave only a brief hoot - not the growl some reported.

Maybe there was a male PS unit and a female PS unit - and I got the girlie one.

The owl pic was stolen from the net.
No squeal with the G2.

All the G1s I had would squeal when the temp dropped low enough.

We had an unusually cold Dec/Jan up here and there was nary a noise when starting with the remote or from inside the cab.
