Navigation - blank screen

Started the truck this morning and the NAV screen was completely blank. Could not get anything to appear regardless of which selections I made on the touchscreen. After about 5 minutes, got a message that said the Garmin system was not responding. Pulled into a parking lot, turned the truck off and then started it. NAV came up fine and worked after that. First issue I have seen with the unit.

I too have just started to notice an oddity in the radio performance. While using the USB and a flash drive, there will be a skip(1/4 second) in the playing of a song. It acts like the old vinyl record that got bumped, but without the needle jumping across the record.

Anyone had this one?
About 6 weeks into ownership of my RTL-E my Infotainment unit bit the dust. Performed as intended until one day it just would not complete the boot process and stopped with a black/blank screen. Only took a couple hours for the dealer to replace it (once they had one shipped in) and no problems for the past 9 months. My firmware was updated in the new unit from the previous version and I swear the screen does not show nearly the amount of fingerprints the original unit did.

Now, as RidgeR2 mentioned with song skip while using USB drive - I have had the same thing happen on very rare occasions but I wondered if it was a skip in the original recording or was it happening with the same song every time it played??? Can't remember the last time it happened or what song was playing but I will watch for it in the future.
Slow flash drive will make it seem to skip or pause for a second or so... Get a new(er) flash drive and it should be ok.
I worked in the automotive and RV service industry a few years ago. Unless it was a publicized recall, it was common to tell customers "this is the first problem we've seen like this". This way the customer didn't think they've bought a trouble prone vehicle with a known history of problems.
Backup camera issue

This problem cropped up the other day. When I put the tranny in reverse, there have been a couple of times when the screen has either been black or white, but still showing the guide lines. Going from park to drive a couple of times solves the problem.
Anyone else have this happen? I'm going to have the dealer look at it, along with a couple of other warranty issues.
I've had this issue pop a few times as well. I really am not worried about it as it's happened on every car that I've owned with a backup camera (GM, VW, Honda). I think it happens when you go from starting to backing up without allowing the head unit to fully boot up and initialize.
I'll have to pay more attention when happens to see if that is the problem. Thanks.
Happened to me on the weekend as well, black screen, but the guide lines were there, I thought that I had just mudded up the lens, but it was clear. I had issues with backup cameras on my previous cars, the oddest was the KIA that ran the back up camera when I was going down the road twice.
I had this issue and ove short time camera stopped working completely. After checking closely I discovered that the wiring harness in the tail gate has got caught or pinched and a couple of wires are exposed and cut.
Map screen went black.

When leaving a restaurant I noticed my navigation map was not on the display. I could get any other screen but not the map. Radio setting would show, just no map.

When I got home I turned the ignition off and then restarted and the map was back like nothing had happened.

Anyone else experience this?

Yes.

While it may not be preferred, ideal, or normal, its not uncommon for infotainment systems to occasionally do things like this.

Remember: This is basically an Android tablet (general purpose computer) running custom software written by Honda, Garmin, and others to perform specific functions. There are hundreds of megabytes of bloated code and dozens of processes running in the background. These systems are full of bugs. The most serious are sometimes addressed through infrequent updates.

Beginning with the 2018 Odyssey and more recently with the 2018 Accord and 2019 Insight, the software on Honda's newest infotainment systems can be upgraded over USB, Wi-Fi, or 4G LTE, which makes the process easier and faster and could potentially make the systems more stable more quickly. The Odyssey had dozens and dozens of bugs that were fixed fairly quickly through software updates.

Welcome to modern infotainment systems. Sometimes they do strange things. Doesn't take much to freak them out sometimes. I'd just ignore it for now and if it becomes a problem, let the dealer attempt to sort it out.

Yep, thinking it was just a fluke as the RTL-E has performed without flaw. Love the entertainment/NAV package. Work quite well with the iPhone.

Is there a combination of buttons that reboots the entertainment/NAV System?

It's a computer...( subject to occasional hanged/reboot..etc. ....Occasional ) :nerd:

Re: Map screen went black.

I am just going to add, that the system in the ‘17 Accord has freaked out because my wife had her e-cig charging on the USB port connection to the HU. We’ve also had various reports of other issues when plugging things into the 12v & USB on the G2.

Good to know. Nothing plugged into either.

Thinking it was just a glitch as it has not happened again.
Re: Map screen went black.

Question is, why are they, though andrioid based, this glitchy. I have been keeping up with the odyclub forum as I am in the market for the new Odyssey.
I have a carpc (for the last 7 years) running windows and I am yet to have a blackout. Are we able to uninstall the bloatware, or are they locked in like they are on our phones?

Windows is a mature product - it's 32 years old and proprietary. Android is only 8 years old and is open source, so anybody can modify it. Our infotainment systems run Android 4.2.2, which was less than 5 years old when it was released and was no longer supported by Google even when the first Ridgeline that came with it rolled off the assembly line.

Apps crash more often than the operating system.

No, you cannot remove software.
Re: Map screen went black.

Still waiting for someone to tell me if there is a combination of buttons to be pressed that will reboot the system.

HOME > Settings > System > Others > Factory Data Reset > Yes > Yes > OK

The system will reboot.
