I also have a 2017 Ridgeline with radio issues. Periodically reboots and display freezes with no control on radio or steering wheel control. Honda finally replaced my radio and after a week the problem continued. Taking my truck in for the 4th time trying to resolve the radio issue. Love the truck as I was a previous owner of a 2007 Ridgeline. Hope Honda can find a permanent solution.

I hate that phrase, "Could not duplicate the problem".
Especially now that dealers are beginning to charge diagnostic fees for "could not duplicate problem" or "normal operation" even for vehicles that are under warranty.

Fortunately, such problems appear to be extremely rare so far. Did they replace the "audio-navigation unit" or the "touch screen display" or both?

Re: Navigation - blank screen

Same issue. Phone connected via Bluetooth, but not plugged in. Happened twice in first 1,000 miles. I also noticed that the compass display in the dashboard would not display. I could view all of the other screens on the dashboard display, and while the navigation screen would not display I could display all of the other items such as radio, settings, etc.

I had a similar issue yesterday. I was 300 miles into a 500 drive and pulled out of a rest area and had no map display. Hitting the audio button brought up the audio page but hitting map button brought a blank with the “MAP” and it “AUDIO” buttons on the top but no maps. I didn’t have a route entered so I don’t know if it would’ve continued to work or not. It didn’t come back until I arrived home and shut the truck off and restarted it. It came back up then and also worked this morning. I’ll probably just monitor it and see if it repeats or becomes an issue.

I would not be alarmed if it came back up after a restart. Happened to me once in my Odyssey where the cabinwatch camera went blank. Pulled to the side, turned off, opened the dr door, started and back to business.

Took delivery on Saturday (2019 RTL-E) and noticed the the AM/FM was totally grayed out and not available at all.

I am going to drop it off tomorrow and they said they need to “reprogram it” and it’ll take 2+hours.

Anyone ever had this?

Backup camera issue

This problem cropped up the other day. When I put the tranny in reverse, there have been a couple of times when the screen has either been black or white, but still showing the guide lines. Going from park to drive a couple of times solves the problem.
Anyone else have this happen? I'm going to have the dealer look at it, along with a couple of other warranty issues.
I am having this problem out of warranty. Did you have to replace the screen?\

This sounds more like the broken wires at the tailgate hinge. There is a big thread on this and it’s easy to see if they are broken.

Navigation - blank screen

Started the truck this morning and the NAV screen was completely blank. Could not get anything to appear regardless of which selections I made on the touchscreen. After about 5 minutes, got a message that said the Garmin system was not responding. Pulled into a parking lot, turned the truck off and then started it. NAV came up fine and worked after that. First issue I have seen with the unit.
Did you ever get an answer from the dealer of why the head unit does this?

On a recent road trip, I had the garmin nav completely blank out on me twice in two weeks. The only thing to get it back was power cycle of truck. This had happened to me once before maybe a few months ago.
Anybody else have this happen to them? Is there some way to get the garmin app to reboot without restarting the truck?

As of now it appears my 2017 RTL-E head unit is gone. The display has been acting up some (pixelation) when CarPlay is on and this time the display had a bunch of vertical and horizontal lines (1/8” squares or so) and then the unit went black. Nothing is displayed and there is no backup camera either. Tried several times with turning the truck off and back on to no avail. Have an appointment with my local honda for next Wednesday, which is the soonest they have availability. Hopefully, this is covered under the Hondacare extended warranty. If so, this repair will pay for the cost of the Hondacare and then some.

6-25 update:
Honda replaced the head unit. HondaCare covered it, but cost would have been $1,050. My only out of pocket expense ($15.90) was the transfer of SiriusXM to new radio.

List price for a remanufactured display audio and navigation unit is ~$900. That's the likely solution and it'll be covered by Honda Care. Yours will be sent back, repaired, and placed into inventory for the next customer who needs a replacement.

Thank you. I also noticed the front usb and center console usb will not charge my iPhone. The usb located in the back of the console for the back seat passengers does work. Almost seems like a blown fuse, but I could not locate one that seemed to be bad. Not sure if these are all related but if others experienced this what was the outcome? TIA

Just hit 20,000 miles this weekend on my 2020 BE. While I like the truck the screen is a constant problem. Sometimes I do something totally unsafe, I will pull off the highway to the emergency shoulder to turn the car off then on again. Yesterday I didn't feel like risking my life, so I dealt with no radio. I was trying to listen to baseball on FM but the whole thing was frozen AGAIN. I had a friend in town and she said why don't you go to the dealer about this and I said I'm just going to complain about it forever. I'm afraid the dealership is going to tell me 'can't replicate'.
On another note, do you think it would be possible to install a 2021 head unit into a 2020 truck? That would be awesome

Display dead on my new 2019 Ridgeline RTL-E

I was playing around with the settings on my display head unit. I got into some of the developer settings and I switched the boot mode to uploader mode. After I did this the display went blank, and I have not been able to find a way to access the settings to switch off the uploader boot mode. There has got to be a way to switch it back out of that mode, I just don't know what it is. Can anyone help me with this please?
I did the same thing. Did you get it fixed?
