Can't say with absolute certainty but that's not gonna stop me from offering an opinion :act024:

If, the XM receiver/decoder is housed in a chassis that doesn't do anything more than receive/decode satellite frequencies & data, it absolutely should not generate heat - at least not to a concerning level. It should be right around the heat generated by an LED cluster, which is to say pretty darn low. There simply isn't enough switching happening inside a pure receiver to cause appreciable heat build up.

I was thinking about putting it underneath the radio and shaving down the cubby. Or do you think there's enough room behind the dash to stash it? I don't want to put it under the seat, running the cable that long,

Nobody likes an open top cubby, don't shave it! There is ample room behind the dash for all kindsa stuff. Small amps, crossovers, ETC. There's even room at the top of the "Y" defroster vents. Without knowing exactly what you have, I'd say its a safe bet your XM receiver will fit no problem.
