Don't Have An Accident; Honda doesn't Have the Parts

Just an FYI to all 2017 owners that should you have an accident, Honda is months out on replacement parts (in Colorado anyway). Of all places, I was hit in a gas station parking lot, but the damage estimate is almost 5k. Areas damaged are the rear passenger door and bed quarter panel. Suffice is to say that I had an estimate done, and three weeks later dropped the truck. I just got a call that Honda has no ETA on when the replacement parts/pieces or whatever you want to call them will be delivered. I'll be with an F150 until then (poor me).

I'm guessing that very few, if any of you have had the need for collision company repairs. If you do though, be aware that it could be months until the replacement parts are available. I'm a bit shocked that Honda can't ship the necessary components to fix their own vehicles.

I'm kinda liking the F150 but it's a beast to drive vs my RL. At the end of the day, I can either drop the rental and pick up my "driveable" R2 or I can wait 60 days for parts and for the repairs to be completed. I just got the news from the body shop so I'll be calling my insurance company next, but to this point my rental was covered.

I thought I'd pass this on in case any of you have an accident; don't make assumptions as to when your truck will be fixed.

Damn, that sucks. No way around it. Best of luck to you.
I had the same thing happen when rock broke the windshield on a brand new Acura TSX. The TSX was brand new to the US & it took weeks to get a new one. I hope your wait is a short one!
Who is your insurance company? A jackwagon driving a Silverado creamed my 9 month old CRV. Because there was a style change my car was in the shop for almost a month while my insurance company accepted there were no after market parts. It wouldn't have been quite that long but they found more damage when they took it apart.

Are you sure that isn't the problem?
Jo, I don't know what your experience has been, but I've been told and also it's happened to me. In my state they don't use aftermarket parts if your car has less than 15,000 to 20,000 miles on it. It's a judgment call on the part of the insurance company but it starts with the body shop, which will often just automatically do the quote with OEM parts — especially if it's not a multi-panel replacement job. Certain insurance companies are more likely to do that than others. I had a five-year-old car with less than 15,000 miles on it that had a fender bender. Nationwide paid for OEM parts. Amica is another that tends to pay it for a car that's in good shape with low miles. Virtually all of the insurers would do it for many of us with our Ridgelines that are less than a year old. Mine only has 3000 miles on it. But it may be very different in Colorado and other states for all I know.

Honda certainly has the parts to build new cars. There should be a federal law that requires them to supply parts within X number of weeks. Auto manufacturers use to pride themselves on carrying parts for 10 to 15 even 20 years. I worked in a VW parts department for a while (back when microfiche was a big thing). They definitely sold VW bug parts going back a long ways. To me it's downright wrong that they are making you wait.

Especially for your brand-new Ridgeline. What a shame. My condolences. Meanwhile have fun bombing around in the F-150.

Thanks. I hope it doesn't take months to get my truck back.

Definitely not the insurance company according to the rep at Service King Collision Center. The news came directly from Honda.

Having fun with the F150, but it's only their base V6. I believe it has less HP than the RL does, but it feels quick enough. Without running boards it's immediately apparent how much higher it sits than the RL, and I have larger Nitto tires.

I feel that pain. My windshield is trashed on the new RL. For a six month old truck it's taken a beating:surprise:
Sorry you have to deal with this. I hope that this will not be the norm going forward. Any idea if this is because it is a newly produced vehicle or because it is a low volume seller?

I think it's a bit of both. I have to go turn back in the rental and pick up the damaged RL. Honda is saying the parts are on back order so I think you nailed it with the truck being so new and a low volume seller.

Mostly it was and issue with the insurance company insisting they try to find after market parts and then having to buy from Honda. It did take a few weeks to get the parts from Honda but they never said they didn't have the parts. At least I was told by the body shop this is normal if your car is new and they just changed body styles.

No worries for me, this was years ago.
Ordered mine from area dealer. Came right in in a few days. I would be sure your shops not just backed up and putting you off.

Parts availability will get better. Just as with aftermarket add-ons it takes time to catch up.

BX,

Is this repair shop highly recommended? or something the insurance co. put you up with?? Just for future reference, in case I get in some kind of unforseen mishap.

TIA

That is interesting. I have never heard of Service King..but that does not cast any negative reflection on the shop. We usually go with Caliber collision. Abra was okay but the last time we went there we were disappointed in the work--they had to repair the skin on my daughter's driver's door and they painted right over the VIN sticker. Car was only months old in 2013.
OP, passenger side bed quarter does show back order, so I checked higher up for you.

Part can be had in 3-5 days if placed as CBO (critical back order). So have the nearest dealer order the part CBO and you'll have it.

Another fact about the bed quarter panel, they just bolt on.

Service King actually had better reviews than Caliber. I went with them because Caliber couldn't look at the vehicle until a full month after Service King

Thanks for the advice! I'll check into this:)
I don't know which is worse; your parts dilemma or being forced behind the wheel of that F-150. Anyway condolences on both counts.
