Easy led footwell lighting

the truck interior is something of a black coal hole for me when i jump into it as mine came with no led lights in the footwells front or rear or below the bench seat in the rear where i have a storage bin. overhead lights are plain awful

honda sells separately for ridgeline and pilot a harness that just plugs into a socket located in both the driver footwell and the pax footwell. it is cheap and has a split for forward and rear wiring if desired. harness is complete with fuse holder and a two amp fuse. one harness could be used for entire truck i guess as opening any of the doors powers both footwell sockets. power is shut off after say 15 seconds. i assume all trucks have the socket for it is used for the oem footwell lighting or the illuminated sills. i bought two harness for $12 ea on line. if you download instructions for the illuminated door sill trim a lot of good info is there

for under $10 you can get 15 feet of led tape. blue for me to match the display colour. cheap deutsch connectors which were well made and solid allows the leds to be disconnected from the oem harness. rigid led aluminium channel is just fixed to the vehicle with adhesive velcro. could just go with the led adhesive tape but it looks dodgy and on plastic with summer heat...

so a bit of soldering and some hookup wire and leds in footwell. good for my needs now

Good job. I'm going to guess those empty plugs are for the optional door sill lights and/or optional lighted running boards

Looks good. I just ordered the harness mentioned for my led's which are due in this week or next.

Steve
Good job!! I have also ordered a couple of harnesses and some LED tape. I'm going for the front and back seats. Thanks for doing the research.

a new truck is probably not the best thing to play with but you may be surprised at the kindness of strangers. some one would probably be happy to help you. just need to find some one close and of like mind

some things make the job easy such as these connectors but still some basic tools and skills needed

I finally received my harness from Honda parts and the led strips from Amazon through Shenzen China of course. I had to pull off the side panel from the dashboard (2 clips and used a putty blade to pry the panel off) and the pulled the plastic panel below the steering columns (more push on clips and easy to pull by hand) and found the accessory connector up behind all the other panel switch wires. Put the accessory harness on and cut off the connector from the added harness (you get two connectors on the accessory harness) and wired on the strip leds for the driver side. Peeled off the stick on tape and put it on the bottom of the lower trim panel and it lights up the driver footwell area nicely now. I have 3 more of the stick on strips so if this works out ok then I'll put on some more later after the testing. But it looks good for now.

Update: 9/30/2020 - Still working well. Never did put the other side on. Only really care about drivers side anyway.

Update: 4/3/2023 - LED's still working well. Had to superglue them in place now. The sticky tape was peeling away. Never put the other side on. Happy as it is still.

just a pic of an actual light. four in total, all different lengths. the led tape from china has poor tape so i remove it and put on real 3m foam tape. the aluminium led holders can be found with end caps and plastic lens cover. available in 6' lenghts. the aluminium holder is held to the vehicle by a spring steel clip sold as an accessory in the led stores. the loom and a bit of shrink wrap make a neat installation that will allow easy removal if needed

Could you please point me in the right direction to this download? Thank you in advance.
I figured I would start in this thread to try and hunt down the answer before I tear into the truck tomorrow. I purchased the OP7 Interior LED Bluetooth light kit. I intend to hardwire it to the fuse panel and the module also has an "auxillary" wire for the door switch to activate the lights when the doors are open. I posted a pic of the instructions as well as the kit purchased, just in case anyone has dealt with this particular kit before.
The main question I have is anyone familiar with an easy spot for me to intercept the "trigger wire" for the door switch. Without taking off the trim yet, Im assuming it all comes back from the switch right near the fuse panel on the driver side. Any insight into identifying the correct wire to grab onto is appreciated.

What LED strips did you go with?
Sorry, they are long gone off Amazon. No idea what's available now.

I added foot well LEDs today, I thought I'd add some pictures. I also disconnected the ANC module while it was apart.
I used 3W post mount LED with a pigtail. I also used the Honda accessory harness linked above. The harness has two connectors. I used the harness of the smaller side. I'll use the other one when I do the door sill puddle lights soon. I recommend modifying the harness on the bench before plugging it in. I did it after plugging it in. I cut the plug off about 2" from the plug. I thought about using some crimp connectors. I have some of the weather proof Duetch connectors shown above. I'll use those on the puddle lights. I found a package of XT30 connectors and decided to use them. Just a quick note. Do not cut both wires off the plug at the same time or you will blow the 2A fuse on the adapter harness. Hopefully you're doing this on the bench with it unplugged and it won't be an issue. Make sure you get the polarity correct if using LEDs, or they won't work. Pink is ground, green (light blueish) is positive. If using the same lights as me, make sure to mount the light and tighten the nut before soldering the connector. This is especially important if using a connector that won't fit through the nut. I was going to use JST 2 pin connector. They would fit through, but I only had half a set. I mounted the light in the factory location. My light is a little smaller, but the nut tightened up fine. On the passenger side the under dash cover is fairly large and the light opening was easy to see. It's centered towards the firewall. On the driver side it is above the accelerator pedal, and is part of the heater duct. I wire tied the cable in place and plu
gged it in. Everything worked as expected.

I used these same LEDs in my 18 Civic foot well. They have worked perfectly since 2018. Using this harness is much easier than finding the proper wire at the BCM of the Civic. I don't know if the Civic has the prewired plugs as an option, but it was worth the $20 in the Ridgeline.
