It might be helpful to link threads that you refer to (unless the post is in the same thread). It is getting a bit confusing trying to sort out which thread you refer to (like post 18 referenced above).

I think heat exchanger is how it's been commonly referred to in past discussions as well. Only now we have a much better idea of exactly what it does.
Perhaps other terms that could be used are a temperature normalizer or conditioner.
Regardless, it seems to be a bad idea to bypass the exchanger in an attempt to mitigate the SMOD issue.

Yes, pre-heater has been used a lot too. I think we'll all had some misunderstandings about the component and what it's designed to do. Honda could help out here, if they chose to participate.
