Has anyone used tire or auto socks for snow driving? In WA State, when chains are required, AWD vehicles are required to have at least one set of chains or other traction devices (such as the tire socks shown in the link below) in the vehicle. I want to save weight and avoid hassle of putting on chains by getting tire socks instead of chains. Any experience with effectiveness, ease of use or durability of tire socks on the RL?

I will assume they are lower profile than cables as clearance is marginal.
I have not been effected by this but, this year there were several days when California passes in the Sierra's that called for chains on all four wheels of four wheel drive vehicles.

More importantly for those of us who worry about looks and fashion, are they available in Argile?
