Is the factory Sub turned on by the head unit? I installed an aftermarket unit with rear sub out and was thinking of running the OEM sub off of the unit using it's rear sub controls. I was just wondering how the factory sub knows to turn on....speaker signal? Also does anyone know if I can just hard wire a pair of RCA cables to the wires for the subs behind the dash or does it require a converter?

The factory sub is not active/self powered. It requires an amp. This current thread talks about that. Perhaps it would be helpful...
