I dont know how you got the dealer to charge you $15 to cut your key, but my local dealer is charging me $200.00.I did a flip key on my '13 following the directions here and it was an easy project. Bought the fob on Amazon for $15, transferred the chip from the old one over and fixed it in place using a dot of glue, and then had the new key laser cut at the dealer for another $15. It works great. Don't know about the keys on the '14, but hard to imagine they're any different.
Usually programming is where the cost comes in. Cutting is the easy part. Sounds like he used the guts from his stock key in his flip key housing, so no programming required.I dont know how you got the dealer to charge you $15 to cut your key, but my local dealer is charging me $200.00.
Amen to that! Plus the dealer may not want to program a key not purchased from them(~$60 in CT) , and a locksmith will want/need to charge you for their time, even if your RL wont accept the key's transponder. I just went through this with an aftermarket key that was advertised on Amazon. The seller refunded my $15, but I am still out $72 for failed transponder programming and key cutting.Usually programming is where the cost comes in. Cutting is the easy part.
