If it helps the engine breathe better it's a good idea. No downsides other than listening to the people here who whine about anyone using anything aftermarket whatsoever.

if the stock intake already flows more air than the engine can ingest, what value does such an aftermarket gizmo add? So upgrade where it adds value, but don't spend money just because you think it adds value... unless it really does. Now if you just want the look and are willing to spend cash for little or no benefit, so be it.

And what did I say above?

I saw what the AEM intake did on the dyno, with my very eyes.

Hopefully one of these ECU companies comes out with a flash or piggyback controller so we can tune the thing and take full advantage of the AEM. Also need a high flow cat exhaust then HP/TQ can increase as well as MPG when your foot is out of it.
OK, I'll buy that.

I'd like to see the numbers. I'm curious what difference it made over the rpm range. I assume you have before and after numbers?

Thanks. I stand corrected.

Maybe next time don't be so quick to judge.
When you say the AEM flows more air than stock, then how does that affect the amount of air the engine can take in assuming that stock already flows more air than the engine can take in?

And note that the results you mention are not for the RL, but for a different vehicle. So other than the chart that plex provided, how would you assume the gains you saw on your STI apply to the G2 RL?

The discussion is great as long as we deal with intakes and not get into personalities. If in the end, we agree to disagree, that is ok too. But the discussion is certainly welcome as long as the discussion doesn't break down into a name calling contest.

After all, how else do we learn if we can't argue a point and either prove or disprove it?

I was looking under the hood and it seems like it will section off air from around the engine and mostly draw from air coming under the vehicle, in which case a slight scoop on the underside could be attached to really draw more air up to the intake... cant wait to get mine tomorrow and start tinkering :)
Be careful here. You don't want to inadvertently create an opportunity to hydrolock the engine. That will not be covered under warranty.

The G1 RL was designed to operate in 26.8 inches of water. I'm not sure if the G2 RL carries that design over or not.

If there's such a procedure for the G2, it's likely spelled out in the PDI sheet. Anyone have a copy of the G2 RL PDI sheet?

For the G1, it's not found in the OM, but is in the FSM and various tech bulletins.

Is your "personal note" based on personal experience and data or an internet based opinion?

I have run K&N oiled filters on all of my cars for over 25 years and have yet to see any long term damage. If you follow the instructions that K&N supplies there should be no long term issues. I have sent out many oil samples that return with data no different then those running a stock filter.
They may be safe, but I am not comfy with them personally. The results of that Arlen Spicer test were pretty damning.

Ya know what, I actually had a Note on my post for people not to add a link or mention that 20 year old shit report again..... shouldn't have deleted it, I knew that there would be one of the 3 members that always bring that up.

Those reports don't factor in the fact that you can clean and oil your filter based on your driving conditions..... IE if you take care of your filter it can be as good as, if not better than, an OEM paper filter. All depends on how much you want to care for your vehicle. If you just want to throw in a filter for 12 months and forget about it, go ahead and drop in a stock paper filter.

Thanks for making the 2000's relevant again!
You're welcome! (and it's still relevant)

Lol.. I can remember flipping the air intake cover over so the entire circumference of the air filter was open to the underhood hot air vs that narrow funnel on the air cleaner housing. Well it sounded better anyway!
