G2 Owners, where did you mount your brake controller?

1977 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Sawdust
Picking up a new Ridgeline Monday, wondering where the best placement for the brake controller (Tekonsha P3) outside of the kickplate area? I am tall and would like to avoid the usual spot under the steering wheel. I noticed a spot that almost looks big enough under the A/C controls and also thought of possibly wiring it into the center console between the seats.

Any ideas/pics of what you have done?

TIA

Not sure if this is of any help to G2 owners, but I recently saw this nice clean installation of Tekonsha P3 in a G1.

It was far right under the dash, beyond where it would interfere with legs as you get in and out of the truck. I liked this location because it seemed to me a co-pilot in the front passenger seat could also monitor it.

That's the standard install location that I'm hoping to avoid. When you're tall that's right where your knee is.

My G2 cowling curves slightly toward the driver, rather than the straight line shown on the picture. I mounted my P3 right where you have it and spent all summer knocking into it with my long legs, so I need to move it in a few weeks, maybe toward the left.

Sorry I can't be any help, but after the relocation, I'll post a photo or two.

I mounted mine low on the left side. It covers the ODBC port, so I removed the ODBC connector from the silver bracket and let it hang behind. In the pic, it looks like it is lower on the right, but it is an optical illusion... the right side sticks out further, which makes it look like it is drooping, but it's not. As an added benefit, Honda put a handy "brake controller protection bumper" there so I don't bump it by accident!

or if you are short and have the seat scooted up near a far as it goes to reach the pedals.
Hi.. mine is out of sight and out of knee reach behind the dash. Sorry cant figure out how to copy the link but check out my last post about RedArc in the "brake controller" thread. Compact IQ is also a 'hidden' remote unit.
