Gas Mileage

How are you doing with mileage? I was worried that I might hit the EPA low of 16 MPG. But, I've just finished my first tank -- 18 MPG -- half freeway miles. I wonder if it will get better as the engine gets broken in?

So far on my second tank which is half full at the moment and my trip A odometer shows 180 miles, mostly city driving.
Re: Gas Mileage

Vertrkr,

If the tank was filled to the top with 22 gallons both times , that means you have used about 30 gallons, which means you are only getting 6mpg  Tell me this ain't true, that you made a typo, or that you have been pulling a boat the whole time, since you got it.

Sorry, shouldn't have posted that. I reset the trip meter at every fill up so it should be 180mile/11gallons=16.36mpg for city driving. Who knows how accurate the gauge is at half full. I'll post again when I refill the tank.
Re: Gas Mileage

Vertrkr, does the driver info LCD at the bottom of the speedometer give you a readout of fuel economy like in the Ody?

No, and that pisses me off, no trip computer at all. The only readings in that display are Trip A/B odometer, total odometer and oil life, nothing else. The QuickStart guide shows a small screen shot of the nav screen with a "Trip computer" button on the screen but I guess that's a misprint as mine doesn't have it and no other manuals mention a trip computer in text or picture. I called American Honda to inquire about that but I missed their call back and I'll be damned if they'll ever call me back after I left the rep 3 voice mails and called her extension multiple times only to get her voice mail over the past week
Re: Gas Mileage

That is too bad. Does it give you a 'range' figure as in the Ody? Or I guess a better way to say it, a 'distance until empty' mileage number?

I really like those features of the Ody. I bet Honda adds those in for the next revision (2007 model year) if enough people squawk about it.

Come to think about it, only us Ody owners know what we are missing! I wonder how difficult it would be to add that package in? Do you think you could get a replacement part (with sending units) from an '05 Ody and put it in the Ridgeline? I really don't see why not.

Nope, no range, no nothing except the odometers and oil life. No idea about adding it in, I tend to shy away from working on electronic stuff so I wouldn't do it, if it was ever offered as an accessory dealer install later I'd buy it.
Re: Gas Mileage

I agree with you about monkeying around with the electronics. I would definitely buy one as a dealer installed accessory.

Heck, I may even ask my dealer if they would be interested in such a project. I can't imagine that the parts are that different between the 2 vehicles.
Re: Gas Mileage

Anyone else have any real data for MPG? I just got mine Tuesday (full tank provided by the dealer) and I'm at 176miles with the odometer JUST under 1/2 tank. Is it really 16city and 21hwy?
Re: Gas Mileage

My 03 Accord w-Navi had a screen that displayed fuel mileage and estimated distance based on fuel level and current mileage data, a friend had bought an Acura TL w-Navi and the Acura did not have this function which miffed the Acura owners who paid about $10,000.00 more than my Accord. The Navi DVD unit in my Accord had a port for flashing the unit; the Honda Dealer told me that this would be used to add future up-grades to the unit, without the need to replace the entire system. I’m disappointed that this feature was not on the Ridgeline with the Navi, for the additional money some including myself (waiting for my silver RTL-Navi already traded my 03 Accord w-Navi) have paid for the RTL-Navi it seams like a minor issue for Honda to resolve!!!

I was on a business trip and I've put 572 miles on it now, with the last 50 or so in town and I used 26.359 gallons which works out to be 21.7 average. I guess because of the delay in getting mine, I'm being rewarded with great mileage.
Milage/Fuel economy

Well, After 250 miles I just filled up the tank for the first time. About half my miles were highway and the other half country roads. No bumper to bumper - stop and go driving. 17 gallons at 250 miles = 14.7 mpg.
That's a far cry from the reported estimated fuel economy!
Yikes - before this, I drove a mini cooper. 12 gallons would go 350 miles. This will take some getting used to..... :(
Re: Milage/Fuel economy

Kind of early to make any valid and long term projections on fuel economy. Break in periods almost always show marked increase in economy as mileage increase to a point. Further, if you are like me and probably many of us her that first tank gets a lot of pushing and testing of the vehicle and its power around town.

Wait a few tanks and you'll start to see things rise, depending on your driving habbits of course (city / highway).
Re: Milage/Fuel economy

I have driven my truck now for one week and have 850 miles on it. I am getting better gas mileage then I thought I would. On the first tank I got 20.37 mpg. On the second tank I got 20.79. Most of my driving is highway (85%). I would expect that it will get a little better once it has 5000 or so miles on it. I am very happy with my Ridgeline.
Re: Milage/Fuel economy

My week-old Ridgeline has 250 miles on the odometer. I filled up for the first time this afternoon, encouraged by a gas station offering regular unleaded for $1.989 (who would have thought we'd ever get excited by a gas price just south of $2???). My first tank registered 15.8 MPG. My ratio of city vs. highway was probably 80-20 so this result did not surprise me. I'll be thrilled if I can average 18 after the engine is broken in. I didn't buy the Ridgeline to get great gas mileage.
Re: Milage/Fuel economy

I filled up for the first time yesterday. I got 356 miles on the first tank, that was an average of 17.89 mpg. I was really happy with that.
Re: Milage/Fuel economy

I just completed a 1200 mile trip. Although mostly open highway, I was pleased to get 20.6 mpg. I am happy with that performance and actually expected to get less.
Re: Milage/Fuel economy

Second fill up. 100 % highway miles with the cruise set at 73 mph the whole way and got 17.7 mpg. Better, but still south of the advertized fuel economy
Re: Milage/Fuel economy

I must have a lead foot. The best I have gotten in 1021 miles is 17.1 and that's mostly highway driving. If there is one disappointment I have so far, it has to be low gas mileage.
