In the Gen2 Owners Manual the fuel recommendation is to use the TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.

Do the lower fuel grades contain the detergents? (87, 89, 91)



Fuel Information
Use of unleaded gasoline of 87 octane or higher is recommended.

Honda recommends TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline where available.

Do NOT use gasoline containing more than 15% ethanol.
Do NOT use gasoline containing methanol.
Do NOT use gasoline containing MMT.​

We recommend quality gasoline containing detergent additives that help prevent
fuel system and engine deposits. In addition, in order to maintain good performance,
fuel economy, and emissions control, we strongly recommend the use of gasoline
that does NOT contain harmful manganese-based fuel additives such as MMT, if
such gasoline is available.

What are the benefits to using premium fuel? I think the owners manual claims the recommended fuel is Regular Unleaded? Should I be using the higher octane fuel ?

I've tried all three octane grades and feel that 93 Octane provides the best performance.

I second the poster above. I've found that using premium makes the truck more responsive. Maybe not better gas mileage or better for my wallet. But it seems to make a difference using premium in this thing. I do know they use a knock sensor so it's probably not my imagination as it can use the extra octane to reduce the amount of timing it pulls when it starts to detect knock. It would be interesting if some magazine did a actual test to see if it's any faster in the 1/4 mile or 0-60.
