Getting extra horse power

Hi everyone. I'm new to the site and I'm glad I found it as it is very helpful. I have a green RTS that I bought in March '05 and was wondering why the Acura MDX is advertised as having 265HP but the Ridgeline only is advertised as having 255HP (they both have the same engine right?). If there is a real difference, how can we Ridgeline owners get the extra HP available in the MDX.

You already have because you bought the green one! :D :D :D
Ah yes, Zero, aren't we lucky? But seriously. And to add to the HP issue, I heard a radio commercial for the Ridgeline and they stated it had 247HP. I was shocked and feared Honda made a mistake on the window sticker and all the promotional literature. I went back to the Honda dealership in Sept. '05 and the window stickers were still reading 255HP.

Does anyone know of any aftermarket turbo or supercharger kits for the Ridgeline? Sure would be nice to get another 100HP.

the reason you see two different sets of horespower values on the Ridgeline is, well, because there are (and, no, it has nothing to do with what color you have). The method by which horsepower is determined has changed - somewhere in the depths of ROC is a long discussion on this - you'll find it if you search on horsepower. Bottom line on the Ridge, it's got what its got. The numbers are just derived in different methods. As for the difference between the Ridge & the MDX, don't know - but it could be as simple as computer settings, or as complicated as different "internals." ("internals" is used here meaning all the stuff in the engine that makes it work that I will never claim to know anything about, other than when it works, all is good, when it doesn work, life stinks!)

Does the Acura require that you fill it with premium fuel?

Today's auto technology can adjust the timing +/- in real time for higher octane gas. This could account for the extra 10 ponies in the Acura vs. the RL.
Perhaps y'all are correct about the Octane and the method of determining the HP. I appreciate the response. I don't mind getting my hands dirty on tuning as I cut my teeth on carburated Camaros, Chevelles, and even fuel injected Mustangs. What I can say for sure is the more high tech the engine, the more expensive the performance goodies.

I won't go the route of chasing HP by installing larger throttle bodies, high flow injectors, ported intakes, headers, a cam and the like. I did all this with my Mustang and overall I would rather have spent more money on a supercharger, especially since it would have taken much less time to install.

This is exactly the reason. Both have the same engine & configurations but the MDX is rated using premium. It's all about marketing, they could have just as easy said the MDX can use regular but they'd have to change the rated horse power to 255 and visa versa with the Ridge. With luxury cars, owners are more impressed with more horse power than the fact it can run on regular so they market it as such knowing owner won't balk at having to use premium to get that HP rating.
I think I'll try the premium to see if I notice a difference. Thanks for the heads up.
comptech i believe is coming out with a charger but they are about 4k!
Looks like theres another horse power junkie on here like me that just has to make anything they have faster or not stock! LoL
