Glove box Light

11125 Views 17 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Carsmak
I was replacing all my interior lights this weekend with LED's, and I my glove box light is not working.
Even after putting in the LED bulb, it still doesn't work.

Is there something I should be looking for in the switch or wiring?

Thanks

Steve

Is the glovebox light not only on with the headlights? Or maybe you need to flip the bulb in it's socket due to incorrect polarity.
That's what I'm not sure about...............does the glove box light only work when the headlights are on?
Or is it supposed to work all the time?

That bulb is an absolute PITA to change...........so I'm hoping it's in the right way.
Ok, on my way to work this morning I opened the glove box and the light was working perfect.

I wasn't aware that it only worked with the headlights on.

Thanks

How did you change the bulb? I was wanting to change mine but was unsure how to remove it.

Same question. I can't get my fingers in there.

On a related note, what is the specification of this bulb? The manual just says 1.4w and I can't find any other specifications. I thought I had the right one (same for center console), but they wouldn't fit.
Hmm, there's a light in there?
I urge caution here as a former glove box light owner who discovered while trying to go red (LED EBay kit) the glove box light can be removed with some difficulty using tweezers/hemostats. The bulb is a small Christmas light size that somehow you’re expected to get hair thin copper leads back into sideways, upside down blind while standing on your head using a mirror and praying lots. Needless to say, my once white dimly lit box instead of red glow, is now a black abyss.
Only way to get better access is to take out glove box insert and in order to do that fully I’d have to pull off my Remin Carbon Fiber so I keep a flashlight inside (red lens filter) with credentials (registration & insurance) right on top. I also keep the red and white bulbs zip locked to remind me what an idiot I was to try this surgery. Good luck with yours, my BE just sucks up all available FL sunlight no matter when I try or what light source helps, this is a PITA, certified. Recommend leaving this alone unless you have Shrink Ray Machine.

LOL! I can almost feel your pain! Good description of a frustrating experience.

I checked mine today after reading this and mine works as soon as I open the glove box with the vehicle parked and turned off. I drive a 2018 Sport AWD model.

I used a small set of needle nose pliers............it's a real pain in the a$$ to change.
I now this thread is old but to help others: The glove box bulb comes on FULL TIME when the parking or headlights are on...This is dumb by the way (my wife's 2018 Tucson is glove box latch activated like a car/truck should be).

Bulb required is the a 2721 ...do not try to squeeze a 74 or other similar size bulb in...it will not fit due to the width of the base - your need a 2721...

It is a PITA to change. You really need to remove the dashboard trim and the actual glove box outer shell to do it right.

Mine burned out by 46,500 miles and took more effort than it ever should to change...Hopefully my Sylvania 2721 LL (Long Life) will last longer than the OEM Honda bulb (which I could not see the brand on but was definitely a different bulb filament than the Sylvania).
Is this on your G2 or the RIP G1. (This Thread is a G1 thread)

The G2 - I never had to change the glove box bulb in my G1...This has to be one of the worst designs I've seen...There is no truly easy way...and the "always on" with parking or headlights on design is just plain stupid...
How did you change the bulb? I was wanting to change mine but was unsure how to remove it.
On my 2008 G1, I simply used a small phillips screwdriver to remove the two small screws that are holding in the bulb mount in place. The mount then drops down and can be easily disconnected from the power cord, so that the bulb can be easily removed and replaced.
If you want to use a VLEDS bulb, I was able to squeeze in a 24-LED 30mm 3022 festoon bulb, part# 3022_24_HO-C. Although the existing OEM bulb in my 2008 G1 RT was similar to the size and type of a visor's vanity bulb, the contact clips were able to expand to securely hold the ends of this festoon bulb. Another VLEDS bulb to possibly use is the VANITY_6_W_5.5K or VANITY_6_W_6K bulb, depending on your color preference, but there would be less light output than the festoon bulb.

Well, the dealership said "Info: There is no glovebox light in the vehicle."
Could I be mistaken? I'm not referring to the center console.
.
Really? In my 2008 G1 there is definitely a glove box light, now nice and bright with the VLEDS bulb’s 6k illumination. The light is located in the top left front of the opening into which the glove box closes. This is totally different/separate from the center console light, which takes a tiny 74 size bulb. I don’t know about your 2016 G2, but I cannot imagine it not having a glove box light.
