I did not think that my RTL leaked but it sat in the parking lot at work all day Friday and when I came out and got in the truck I could barely see the navigation screen? I had previously decided to "make sure" that I did not have the leak. I hosed down the truck and concentrated around the front window and "A" pillar to see if any water came in. There was none. I was convinced I did not have the problem. Anyway, on Friday, my conclusion that I didn't have the leak cleary became just the opposite. I raised the floor mat and sure enough, soaked.. It was 4:00pm and I immediately took the truck to the dealer. They took it into the shop and they advised that the water was coming in around the windshield and running down the a pillar into the truck. Having water come into a $30,000 vehicle is bad enough, but my question is what made the navigation system get dim. Everyone knows that electricity and water do not mix. I asked the attendant service guy about it and he said, don't worry that stuff is all sealed. I don't buy that, if it was sealed, what made it get dim? If there was something electrical that got wet, the least of the future problems I can think of is rust and who knows what other electrical problems. The truck goes in Monday to have the repair done and they say they will have it 3 or 4 days.

I am not a happy camper about all of this, I know the Ridgeline is new and there are going to be problems, but if the Navigation system is in fact damaged, then I want that fixed. I am going to contact Honda Monday about this and voice my concerns, I urge anyone with the same scenario to do the same. I really love this truck, but I am not very impressed at this point with this issue. I hope the rapair is done correctly and I have no more problems.

I washed my truck the other day for the first time and I checked under the mats after hosing it down. No moisture but I will still be vigilent. Sometimes these things take time to become apparent.

I hope all goes well for you concerning your repairs. Don't settle for anything lees than all you expect.

I for one have no intentions of taking my Ridgeline out of the garage if it is raining and this has nothing to do with the "leak". I don't want it to get messed up. Every day I wake up and check the internet weather sources and if it is 20% or greater chance of rain, I ain't going no place!!!

Great now Honda needs to re-name the RL to the new Honda Agoraphobia (intense fear and avoidance of any place or situation where escape might be difficult) ;)

Ladyridge what did the Service Department say about your Ivan going dim?

Vertek,

The NAV screen was so dark that you could barely make out the screen at all. It was like someone turned the brightness down on your TV to where you could barely see the screen. I definetely want the water issue fixed, but I am more concerned about the after effects of the water entering the cabin area concerning electrical problems, rust, etc. If they come back and tell me that water did not affect the electrical system, I am going to go off on them! I know what I observed, and I have never witnessed that condition before on the NAV. I did check the dimmer thinking it was down the whole way, but the NAV was the only thing dim, instrument cluster was normal, and increasing the dimmer the whole way up until it locked had no effect. I will keep everyone posted, hopefully I will have some more news today.

msmith56,
Was it a gloomy, rainy day? I had the shocking disappearance of the screen happen to me one day and then I realized the light detector wasn't getting enough light and it switched to night mode. Rather than trying the dimmer/brightness, you have to go into the settings and put it back into day mode. I hope this was your only problem with the NAV. Please give us a follow up report.

msmith,

Your rational and calm posts are admirable. Sorry to hear about your water intrusion and im very interested to see what the final fix will be. Your not alone in this problem as some others experienced it also and hopefully the help of one of the first Ridgers that reported the issue will help get yours attended to as fast and painless as possible.

Although I would be climbing all over and under the Ridge with a flashlight to see any intrusion spots I dont think its like someone had a hose and doused the underside of your dash. It its possible that water may have touched the right wire to the nav and caused the dark screen OR there is the possibility your Nav unit may be bad.

Hopefully the dealer will replace your NAV unit and pull the carpet out and have it cleaned along with stoping any more water from getting inside the cabin of course.

Truckin,

Thanks for the info about the settings. I had set it to day mode instead of auto for the day and night settings. I guess there is a chance that that may have been overridden some how. But even in night mode I could still see the nag screen. Believe me, I am hoping that I overlooked something too as far as the dimness, but I am having the dealer check it out just the same. I honestly do enjoy this truck, It's versatility is amazing, the ride is better than my 99 accord I traded for the RL, and the sound system is great too. I just hope that I do not experience any "gremlins" that may pop up in the future in the electrical area or the nav. I just spoke with the dealer and they advised it is still in the shop and they will let me know something as soon as they do.

I took my RTL in a month ago for a repair. The replaced the windshield and gasket and the leak seems fixed. Interestingly, I noticed the nav screen was dim first. I was upset about that then noticed the water on the floor mats and carpet once I reached my destination. I noticed the nav was dark but not switched to night mode since night mode for me is a different color. The dash lights were fine and playing with the brightness did not affect it. I did increase the brightness on the nav itself to maximum to see it at all. Of course after it was fixed it was way too bright. I asked them to check the nav then and was told it was in working order and not affected by the leak. They thought it was unrelated and asked if I knew how to adjust the brightness  Now I think it might be because I have seen other posts about a dim nav with the leak. Let me know what happens. If they find damage to your nav then I might see if I can get mine fixed too; although, it seems fine now.

I haven't had the dim issue with Ivan and I have not taken her to the dealer for repair yet. They have looked at it but I was uncomfortable with the process they wanted to take to find the problem so I have elected to wait for the Service Bulletin to be issued by Honda. They may have to replace my carpet but at least I know it will be right.
I'm patient!!!!

My nav screen is always dim for the first minute or so after I start the car

The brightness slowly increases to full.

(not to be confused with day/night mode)

That's the case for any LCD screen backlight by fluorescent bulbs as most are. It should not be that much dimmer at start but a little noticable bit.

Re: Guess My number is up.. Had the leak (hopefully)

Well, I just got my truck back today. It rained the whole way home and the passenger side is dry!! The leak was on the passengers side at the bottom of the windshield. They called in a specialist and he spotted the problem right away. I also inquired about the nav screen being dark and they stated that it appears to be working just fine. They also stated that if it causes problems in the future, it is recorded in their database and they will cover it. They went beyond the call of duty to help me and I really appreciate the quick turn-around. They detailed the truck and it looks like they did a great job putting it back together. They did not have to remove the windshiled or the fender so I am happy about that. I will be keeping a eye on the floor, but I am hoping that it's fixed and I can move on. The truck does have some issues, but the good things about the truck outweigh the bad things for me and she's a keeper!!

Glad to hear that you had a good repair experience. After reading some of the repair accounts, it is nice to read an account that was very positive.
