You can also get a fair idea of the coolant temp with an IR gun at the radiator hose.

You can also get a fair idea of the coolant temp with an IR gun at the radiator hose.
Reading through a rubber insulation hose is not accurate and I have seen disparity of 8F between the coolant temp reading and the reading I get on the lower radiator hose. i tested it out last November, just for the hell of it, when I was taking temp readings on my brake rotors and tires.
