Here's How to Connect Homelink/Ambient Light in RTS

I don't have pictures, but here are the wiring connections to install the overhead console with Homelink/Ambient Light in the RTS:

From the 10-pin roof console connector (green):

Position 1 - Red/Blue wire to Black wire of 4-pin compass harness (ground)
Position 4 - Red/Black wire to Yellow wire of 4-pin compass harness (hot at On or Start)
Position 5 - Black wire to Black wire of 4-pin compass harness (ground)
Position 6 - White/Blue wire to White/Blue wire of 3 pin map light harness (hot at all times)

If you use this connection described above, you will be able to use the Homelink system with or without the ignition switch on. The Ambient Light will be on with the ignition switch in the 2nd position or when the truck is running. Didn't feel like fishing a wire down to the headlight switch.

I just connected mine this way and it works perfectly. I bought my overhead console with Homelink and Ambient light off eBay for $71. It came out of an 06 Odyssey. Purchased it from LKQOnline and I highly recommend them if you can find one.

Thanks to CJMDWYER for the assistance as well as many others who posted info on this. Sorry I don't have any pictures.

Good luck and as others have said, please test the connections before you commit.

Sweet - I am planning to do this as well. Couple of questions:

Did you get the entire console from the Ody? (Map lights, sunglass holder, etc)

Did it color match right?

Did the connector for the map light fit?
Glad the pics helped out some. I didn't want to fish a wire up from the headlamps as well, so my ambient light is on with the truck also. My overhead console is out of an accord coupe, so it doesn't have the "conversation mirror" in it like to odyssey ones do. Other than that, it's basicly the same. I am however waiting for a rsx/tsx to come throught here and total so I can swap out the amber light (honda models) for the blue ambient light (acura models) because I like the blue more than the amber. But I can deal for now......................
The console was the full console (maplight, sunglass holder, homelink, ambient light) and it fit and color-matched perfectly. The map light connector fits perfectly as well. Also has the conversation mirror which is cool but can be distracting.

My console also came with the green connector that I was able to use to connect the Homelink/ambient light. They didnt leave very much wire coming from the connector when they cut it out of the wrecked vehicle, but I was able to rig it pretty well.

Like my dad always says, a little duct tape (in this case - electrical tape) and bailing wire can go a long way! ;)

Before I actually tried the connections, I went to my local Honda dealership and they let me copy all of the wiring diagram pages I needed from their shop manual.

Good luck on your efforts! I could not have done this without this forum.

CJMDWYER.

The pictures helped alot. I was able to use them to back up what I read in the wiring diagrams.

Like you, I would like the blue light instead of the amber light, but its not a big deal. Im very happy with how this turned out.

Only problem I have now is deciding on what to install next!

I have installed the auto dimming mirror with compass, factory fog lights (with bezels painted to match) factory XM radio, factory hitch/harness and an a/m billet grille so far. I am looking into getting a XM antenna from a RTL (the one that is on the roof) to replace the add on one that sticks to the inside of the windshield. I am also wanting to install a/m dvd with screens in the headrests as well..................

WOW!! When I purchased over $800 worth of accessories from my dealer, I asked for the installation instructions and they advised me that I was on my own as they could'nt come thru on my request. I later downloaded them from the 'net thanks to a ROC member's advice at the time.

Your dealer really sounds like a cool outfit!:)
I've been pleased with them. The sales manager lives in my neighborhood and I always go to the same guy at the service desk. He's the one who let me have the shop manual to read in the waiting area. I dog-eared the pages I wanted and he copied them for me.

I originally asked a person in the parts dept and he told me the same thing you were told - I needed to buy my own manual b/c they didnt want to take the blame for any problems.

As far as other accessories, I had the roof rack and brush guard put on when I bought the truck. I installed an aftermarket iPod interace, OEM fog lights and of course the homelink console myself.

I was thinking about running boards but I might try the blue compass mirror next. One day I want to find a nav unit - either OEM or a good aftermarket that will fit in the opening. I guess the opening is a standard double-din opening???

Happy ROC'n!

What pics are you referring to? I was hoping there was a link here somewhere but I could not find it.
Has anyone used this style of overhead console in the Ridge yet? If so, is it a direct plug and play. If not, I have one on the way and I'll let everyone know how it comes out.

Console in question:

All I wanted was the Homelink and these are a about half the price of the ones I've found with the ambient lighting and conversation mirrors.

Is this the same thing as in the 06 Ody's and does this in fact work on the RTS?

(Just want to make sure I've got the parts right that are mentioned above)

edit: I have the Olive interior so I am going to be searching for tan, but if anyone's after a taupe one for the Ridgeline, here it is for 50$

To any of those having a hard time sourcing the green harness, it is very easy to make your own harness using computer jumper cables and most computer stores have them in stock. They are very snug and fit the pins perfectly side-to-side

I would add it is important to find an "always on" wire; The homelink module needs it. The module I used was from an 07 Pilot and I was fortunate it came with the green junction plug to connect to the homelink unit. I wired it using the wiring to the 4 pin existing plug(cut off plug) above the map light which was meant for the mirror. This plug had three wires but i only used the black(ground) and yellow(hot on start). I tapped the white/blue wire(always on) to get the fourth wire needed in SCrocs connection instructions. I ignored the green wire of the four pin plug and everything seems to be good. :act035:
I just did this upgrade on my 06 RTS. I purchased the whole homelink/conversation mirror/map light unit out of an 09 Odyssey. It was tan which matched up pretty well with my interior (warm gray). Mine did not come with the green 10 pin connector unfortunately but I was able to find one at the local pick and pull (it came off one of the driver door window or mirror switches on a 98-02 Accord 4dr I believe).
On mine I wired both the ambient LED and the Homelink to be powered only when the key is on, using the taped off harness in the headliner that's intended for the accessory auto dimming mirror. I don't mind the ambient LED being on during the day and I prefer the Homelink to not be usable without the ignition key (in case someone breaks into the truck and tries to get into my garage).

I do have an additional homelink/mirror/map light unit from an 06 Odyssey (also tan) as well as an extra green 10 pin connector if anyone else is interested in this mod.

I bought the homelink conversation mirror through ebay, but it did not come with the 10 pin wiring harness. If you still have the green 10 pin connector, I would be interested to buy that from you.
See my post above you cant find a green connector.
There seem to be several versions of this console. The ones most commonly on eBay have only a two-pin plug, and I can't see how this can work with all functions. Do I give up the lights coming on with the door-opening with this model? It would seem logical to me that for all functions to work correctly, you need ground, +12 for home link/map, and one for the door-light leads at a minimum. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Post a link to the different versions. Are you sure you are not looking at the connector to the overhead console light?
Here is the two-pin version:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ACCORD-CR-V...Parts_Accessories&hash=item20d3b405ff&vxp=mtr
Look at the second photo.
The connector is near the bottom, just to the right of the left-most light bulb
Then there's this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Odyss...Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d1063d680&vxp=mtr
Look at the last picture.
It has a green multi-pin connector. It also has the little perforated section - is that the "ambient Light" I see mentioned?
