Hiring a lawyer and going after Honda and a new BE!

10649 Views 44 Replies 24 Participants Last post by  2017BE
I have posted on other threads about my paint issue which now appears to be from the factory as well as my wiring harness replacement. Now there is more drama to add to the mix....

So after taking my BE to the dealer to get what I thought was a lose part that wasn't tightened properly when they replaced my harnesses causing a popping noise in the back seat.....Dealer has had my BE ALL DAY and just called and said that the popping noise was unrelated to the harness issue and the problem is actually one of the pieces of glass in the back window is lose. According to the Honda Tech Center, the fix is to get a glass company out to take the piece of glass out and use silicone in the gasket then reinstall the glass. I told the tech to document everything he has done but do NOT mess with the glass! I am getting a lawyer and we are going after Honda and a new BE because all these problems with the paint and everything else is getting out of hand. I paid near full retail for this truck and I am not having Honda put band aids on it to fix this noise problem and fix the harnesses and fix the paint issue. Give me a new BE OR a pocket full of cash OR I hire a lawyer and take them to court and get BOTH!

I don't know that it's quite that easy, but what do I know? Some might say not much. ;)

Good luck on your quest and keep the thread updated.
Describe the noise from the glass. I have a pop or bump on the rt side towards the rear. I wonder If it's the same issue. Just looked at a parts breakdown of rear door glass. The only thing I see on the door glass that could be glued are the two mounting tabs on the bottom of the glass. A replacement glass would be in order not a reglue. Even if it could be reglued you would not use silicone. More than likely epoxy. Demand a new glass. FIND ANOTHER DEALER.

State lemon law?

If I am not mistaking to qualify for the lemon law here in NC the dealer has 4 opportunities to fix the same problem. If they don't fix it then lemon law proceedings can commence.

My deal is the paint issue from factory. Not paying $47k for a vehicle that has been painted!

The pop noise according to the dealer is from the pane of glass moving when the truck goes over a bump or in a turn like going into a parking lot where the body is put in a bind. I thought the noise was from where they took the bed apart to replace the harnesses.

that stinks
Good luck on getting a new BE. That will be awhile my friend.
Either you are just venting or you are a crazy person.

You took your truck to a car wash and got some swirl marks. Your fault on that one.
You are angry over a paint issue, but the issue must be incredibly minor if you had the truck for 5 months before and never noticed it. And even then only a professional detailer could spot it.
And now Honda is actively fixing a problem for you're mad because it's taking "ALL DAY".

Time to take a few deep breaths...

Sorry that you have to deal all of this BS but see what the lawyer says. I'm no expert but would think you have to give them a chance to fix your vehicle though. You just can't decide when you are fed up and expect a new RL when you want because you paid a lot of money. Both you and Honda have rights and so far Honda has fixed your car.

Honda quality has been dropping for years now but for some reason I keep on going back. Ironically I've had the best luck with Fords but those were pushrod engines. I've never had an issue with a Honda or Acura (20 or so in the family since the 1980's) that were produced in Japan. The problems for me started in 2009 with models built in the US. The Acuras of the early 90's were bulletproof works of art.

Nearly bought an MDX, but after going to forums I decided not to. Surprised at Honda's slip lately. Rattles, loose grab handles, water leaks, broken latches....wow. My wife's 2013 has been mechanically good, but it has rattles/squeaks I wouldn't tolerate. I've got a RAM truck and it is more solid and rattle free. Come on Honda, step up.
I used to intern at our state's attorney general's office regarding consumer fraud and protection and can tell you you're still a long ways out from having a lawyer be able to do anything about these issues. Early adopters, what did we expect?

I'm pretty sure you just got on the "the list" my friend...
The frustration level is at an all time high. The paint was the biggest issue. The more I think about paying retail for my BE the madder I get. I don't expect a new BE but I do expect the paint issue to new fixed with a new tailgate and not a repainted tailgate. There will also be some compensation involved as well. Might be Honda dollars for future services but there will be something. As soon as the dealer finishes putting my truck back together I am going back to the dealer where I purchased it and that is when the fun will start. Here is latest picture of the state of my truck.

I don't consider putting silicone in the window to eliminate the noise a fix. Sorry.

From a professional painting standpoint, I would say if a paint repair is done by a well trained professional; adhesion quality, DOI, and finish longevity are all improved over many OE applications.

I don't know your paint issue and don't really want to go search for that thread. But, from your pictures they really did a thorough job digging into your truck to find the cause of the noise. Your only concern is how they fix the window. Why don't you contact some local reputable auto glass shops and describe the proposed fix to them. I am sure you will get some opinions on whether the use of silicone is a reasonable option. Frankly, I am sure that automotive adhesives and caulk are used to buffer a lot of noise and fit issues in all modern vehicles... not as a repair on the line but as a normal part of the assembly process to reduce the chance of squeaks, air gaps, rattles, etc. So, maybe the silicone, or similar, is already used and your vehicle just needs a better application?

Have you contacted Honda customer service directly? If not, then your claim of going straight to a lawyer is premature. No person or company can claim perfection. How they deal with the inevitable imperfections of life is ultimately what should be used to measure them by.

My $0.02

Paul.

My title of hiring a lawyer may have been premature. I am going to work with the dealer where I purchased my truck and corporate Honda to resolve these issues. I hope lawyers or as some call them Liars don't have to get involved.
