How about just installing a separate cooler for the transmission? It would most likely work much better and you would never worry about the coolant mixing with the transmission again...

Read up a bit more on this subject. . . .The Ridgeline already has an air to trans oil cooler mounted in front of the radiator. The purpose and effectiveness of the coolant to oil (transmission) heat exchanger inside the radiator had been discussed and debated quite a bit on this site. Here are some thoughts

Honda and many other manufacturers install an exchanger on their vechicles. Probably for a reason no? Maybe its simply a way for them to meet emissions regs during cold start up or maybe its really engineered to acheive efficiency and longevity?

The Ridge has a very large amount of transmission fluid that in colder climates may take a long time to heat up without the help of the exhanger

Air flow and temperatures vary greatly while coolant temperatures and flow are much more consistent. . .Lugging up a hill at slow speed with a heavy trailer load? Will a air to oil cooler provide enough cooling capacity?? Not much breeze . . .How about in lots of stop and go traffic?

This has been discussed and pretty throughly determined to not be in the best interest of your transmission. But it's your vehicle, report back what you do.

While your at it, update your profile with some minimum location info, vehicle year and maybe model. It's helpful in all sorts of ways.

I don't remember specifically anyone doing this, I do remember a member adding a Power Steering Cooler to an Acura MDX, IIRC but it could have some additional information for you. When considering this you may want to read up on this thread by member @OhSix he monitored temps throughout the transmission circuit. Unfortunately he's not been available lately but the data is still relevant.

And in the G1 forums your not going to get much info, the active members are not around as much and the G2 owners haven't gotten to these items yet, although this thread 2017 Ridgeline transmission cooler might have something, although I'm unsure if anything has been installed yet.

That should work nicely. I would not bypass the stock one though just use the stock line into the aftermarket one then go back into the stock one. although I am Not sure if it would work better on feed side or return side...
