How to treat the Black trim

7170 Views 14 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  huyscm
Just purchased a white RTL-E. I previously had a 2008 RTL white. The new truck has lots of black trim, bumper, bottom, etc. The old truck didn't have the black bumper or trim.
The question is how do I treat the black trim? Thanks

Congrats on the new ride! Most folks probably use Mothers or Maguire's Back to Black. I highly recommend Mothers Back to Black Heavy Duty Trim Cleaner if your Trim is a bit dull and needs a little more help to look its best.

I use Griots Black Shine Trim Restorer and it works really well.

Thanks Tidewater, I will give Mothers
Hi, I detail cars on the side. If your black trim is new, I wouldn't use anything until you have to due to dulling. Just keep it clean for now.

3m 303 is what you want to use.

Best stuff around and useful for a lot of other toys you may have in the garage too.

I've been detailing my own cars for 40 years and recently discovered Surf City Garage "Black Max" exterior trim detailer. It by far is the BEST stuff I've ever used, and I've tried most all of them including the products from Meguiars and Mothers. Also Surf City Garage "Beyong Black" tire dressing, again is the BEST I've ever used. Goes on easily, nice natural sheen, not that fake over-the-top shine, no sling, and long lasting.

I have no relatonship with Surf City Garage company, other than being a VERY satisfied customer.

Another vote for 303 products. I use them on my hot rods, classic cars and boat. The instant detailer is awesome, and the aerospace protectant is great on all plastics and vinyl.
I have used all the basics, Mothers, Meguiers, 303 etc and all work well, 303 seems to "run" sometimes down the sides.
I recently tried using a product I use on my ATVs and UTV. SC1 is the product, spray on and light buff, looks great on the top of the rear bumpers which are always dirty and dull as they collect tons of dirt and dust.

It's basically a special silicone spray and it is super easy and fast to apply.
A professional detailer recommended this product for keeping the trim nice and new car black. He did say to be sure and wipe it off before it dries.

I tend to try different products based on forum testimonials. Gave Griot's trim restorer a go a few days ago, and thus far am impressed. Haven't been in any rain yet so can't say how Griot's holds up in a downpour. Seems to have given my BakFlip some pop, too.

Just simple ol Lemon Pledge or Favor, a $2-$3 can will bring a shine to all of the exterior black plastic on the Ridgeline, including the tires. The only plastic it does not work on is the bed floor, where I am still looking for a product that does this.

I like 303 as a product. It really brings up the shine, but it does not last more than 3 weeks on exterior plastic. I’m going to try a ceramic coating next. 303 looks great on the interior stuff and lasts for at least a month.

GTECHNIQ C4 Permanent Trim Restorer
