In bed exciters (speakers) good or bad idea? Poll

I think it was a waste of time and engineering resources personally.

I'm going to try and add a third option for the people who can't commit to a real opinion... i.e. the mushy middle with no convictions.

Edit: sorry I couldn't edit the poll to add a third option for the people who can't get off the fence. ;)

I would have rather seen the R & D cost used for a tailgate lock.
Absolutely! It's hard to believe that the G2 RL will be the only new pickup truck without a factory-installed tailgate lock. The very least Honda could do is offer one as an accessory.

I think the bed exciters are pure hype and wasted resources that would have been better spent on these things:
1 - tailgate lock
2 - dampening mechanism for lowering the heavy tailgate
3 - proper console armrest
4 - pass-through port (not a full midgate) for extending long items into the cab under the rear seats, and (drum roll)...
5 - "Sport Edition" with enhanced ground clearance and AT tires!
All those are more useful items than bed speakers.

are you telling me the tailgate does not lock??? and they really screwed up not having the tailgate damper.
Heavy tail gate? you can open it two different ways. I never thought it was heavy, come on whats this world comin to and dont care if any of the BIG THREE has it. You all gonna want to slide your leg under the rear bumper to drop the gate next year. Are some gettin so lazy, you probably go to the gym to, The wife has no issues with it and shes now laughing at this. We even let it down nice with a little bit of muscle and dont let it drop that can cause issues down the line. Its suppose to be a frickin TRUCK.

Indications so far say no factory lock on the tailgate, but I suppose if an electronic tailgate lock is incorporated into the passenger door lock system, we might not know about it yet. Such a lock could open when the door unlock button was pushed in the cabin or on the key FOB. But you would still want a separate tailgate unlock button on the FOB for those times when you only wanted to unlock the tailgate and not the doors, as is common with the rear hatch on SUVs. To date, no one has posted a picture of a tailgate lock button in the cabin or on the key FOB.

Of course an aftermarket company would likely offer a tailgate lock for the new RL, but why should buyers have to hassle with adding something that is now standard on other pickups? (plus you end up with another key to keep track of)

I'm 5'-11", 150 lbs., and have never found the Ridgeline's tailgate to be heavy. In fact, it's no heavier than the tailgate on my Silverado that had the spring-assisted EZ Lift tailgate from the factory.

HEAVY is the tailgate on Dad's '71 Ford!

I know! These lazy bastards! All this high tech junk on the trucks these days, like disk brakes, FOUR Wheel disk no less! and Power brakes? Ooooo does it hurt your leg when you step on the brake pedal? Power steering! WTF! Rack and pinion! All you need is a connection to the front wheels, king pins are fine, they allow the wheels to turn!
Electric windows? Cup holders? TWO mirrors? You can't pay attention so you know if someone is on your right side without TWO mirrors? They used to have ONE mirror ya know...And stereo? why do you need 8 speakers! one is fine!
Ya get my point? I hope so. >:)
The canyon has the dampened tail gate and once you try it, you will appreciate it.

Wonder if Honda is listening? Something for the mid-cycle refresh? I'm sure someone will start a new wish list once the Gen2 is out on the street.

My friend's new Taco has it too. At first I made fun of it, but goin' hunting in his truck, I got to liking it. When you got three dogs in the bed raring to get out and get after the birds, it's nice to just let the tailgate drop by itself leaving both hands free to manage the dogs. You could just let the tailgate fall hard or open it sideways I guess, but the dampener is nice to have, and I'd take it any day over inbed audio.

Geeze...No one at Honda thought of a locking tailgate? No one said anything the entire 10(9?) years of the Gen 1 RL?
Even if they said why making it locking, it is open, they have a Honda tonneau cover and after market caps. It is just a good idea.

I don't know who all offer the dampened tailgate, but my first experience with one was on the Colorado. Very nice feature, IMHO. Although many tailgates are not all that heavy when opening them with both hands and while not trying to balance a load in your arms - there are many times that is not the case. Its then that you come to appreciate the feature!

Gen1 owners who wanted it just shopped the aftermarket. There were some complaints but it wasn't a big deal. Now that it's become standard on pickups, I think it's a stupid oversight for Honda not to have put a factory tailgate lock on the Gen2.
Okay I finally responded to the poll and selected the good idea option.
Since there was not a 3rd or 4th choice I said it was good and I could find some use in it. I could listen to some 1970s Al Green and plug my Random Orbital buffer/polisher into the A/C plug in the bed and wax this truck to death.
I always say Al Green 2001-2002 they had the 2nd Acura TL/CL meet in Maywood NJ. I went up from Washington DC about a 4hour drive early Sunday mourning. I forgot my 6disc CD Changer Magazine loaded with music at home.
I had a single CD in the glove compartment and loaded into the single player.
It was Al Green and old Al and Love and Happiness took me to Maywood NJ and Park Ave Acura Dealership and back home to DC. Early Sunday mourning not much on radio. This is why I was an early adopter to XM radio I got it after that. It was a great meet over 100 cars showed up and the dealership treated us to some good food breakfast and BBQ burgers and Chicken ect.

Given the adjectives associated with "choices" in this poll, there will be no participation on my part.

Maybe a better poll would be something like:

What would you be willing to pay for the IBS, assuming sound quality is equivalent to mid-range BT speakers (remembering that most current BT speakers are not stereo)?
0$
Up to $100
Up to $250
Up to $500
Over $500
Could be worse:

WOW..... another slam from NOT a RL Owner. I dont feel a tail gate that drops by itself has much to do with safe driving like everything you listed. Ya get my point >:)

So you don't get my point. Is it the NOT a RL owner that blocks your understanding?
"In bed audio" - revision .01?
I bet the foam insulation really improved that installation.
