In my 23 RTLE with (so called) premium audio, I had been using just the one Dash USB with MP3 music and works fine shows all tracks, Musicians, and artwork. I recently put another in the console USB and used the head unit selection to switch USB’s, played fine the first time from the console USB all info showed .
Next time I started up vehicle the screen showed No Data, so I switched back to dash USB and all was working normal.
So I have found now that if I start out using either the dash or the console USB it will only read and work from that one no problem, but if I switch to the other by selecting switch USB it will show No Data on the screen.
both USBs are 32 GB , any thoughts ?
Too much info for the infotainment to handle? Maybe just a glitch due to old Honda technology ?
it’s not a big deal to just use 1 at a time, but it’s goofy to have the option to switch USBs and it not work.
😎
Thanks for any input.

My understanding is that the center console USB port (under armrest) is not media capable. I think it is just charging capable. It doesn't say that in the manual, but they refer to the other data connectivity such as CarPlay or Android Auto to be front port only.

Corrected: It does support it and states so in the manual. (posted a screenshot of the manual statement on page 205 in my reply below)

My 2023 will play the USB from either port, but if I do as I say in my original post the infotainment screen will not recognize the other if I go to switch ports. I will look in my owners manual again to see if it says anything, but I’m sure you know the manuals are vague.

You are right... I came back to correct myself. Yeah, it is a weird system, I have routine issues if I have something plugged into both ports simultaneously. But also they make unclear statements, no doubt.

Cool I just looked too, and as you saw both are supposed to play audio files. Oh well I can just use 1 and then switch USBs so I don’t have the weird issue. Thanks for looking and answering me. Might be too much for the system or maybe the version of the thumb drives, which I don’t remember if 2.0 or 3.0, doesn’t say on them , but both are Cruzer Thumb Drives, have had for 2-3 years or so.

I have not run into a compatibility issue as long as it is formatted at FAT32. I'll play around with it a little more too.

The manual is certainly unclear. :) I'm certain about flash drive compatibility, but I have run into a compatibility issue as long as it is formatted at FAT32. I'll play around with it a little more too.
I formatted Fat32 also, and it’s just weird they both work fine separately with all my data and album artwork showing up, it all gets goofy when I go to switch between USBs .
I was spoiled with my Jeep and the UConnect infotainment system, it had 2 usb ports and 1 SD card slot, I could switch between all 3 smooth and easy, plus the premium audio was better , had deeper harder hitting base too.
But the Cherokee itself was junk , the music made it tolerable. This Ridgeline is way nicer to drive so far , I’ll just upgrade the speakers at some point . If I get more thumb drives I’ll try them too. I did a different drive for my wife to use in her 2020 Pilot, I’ll try that one too. She hardly uses it , she uses her Kindle Fire loaded with music in her Pilot.

How are you switching? I’m testing now with two USB drives. It only prompts when a second is inserted. If I remove one it auto switches from the pulled on to the remaining. It all seems correct. So, how are you switching?

I leave them both plugged in and when I start the car it will resume playing from where I left off, if I hit the menu button on left of screen it takes you to a menu that asks Scan, music search or switch usb device, this is where I select to switch then the other drive will say No Data. It will do it starting at either usb .

I see, ha… I’ve never paid attention to the menu button for that purpose. Learned a new thing today.

“No data” means incompatible files or empty drive, according to the manual. I wonder if it is stumbling on some incompatible files (coded slightly wacky or non compliant meta tags). When I attempt your scenario, it seems to work as you wish. Eh, I wish I had an answer. Sorry to waste so much thread text.

Thanks it was not a waste of thread or time, I appreciate you even responding let alone you tested the same thing. It must just be an incompatibility issue or too much data it can’t handle it. I’ll try my wife’s usb at some point and one of mine and see. They work flawlessly if just using 1 at a time , and like you said earlier if I add the second one while vehicle running it asked if I wanted to switch and it worked no problem then, just doesn’t if I shut vehicle down with both left plugged in and next time I restart and use the menu to select other usb it doesn’t. So it is what it is 😊😎

Yeah I tried the shutdown too and restart, it seemed to work fine. Good luck, I’ll keep tinkering, too.

I'm guessing the 2020 is different in that manner since there is no wireless charger.

Ok I finally tried my wife’s different brand and only 16GB USB and got the same results when trying to switch between them.
I did think of something , I used windows media player on a computer with Windows 10 to put all my music files and Cover artwork on them, did you use ITunes or another program, maybe that could be a difference in how the compatibility is for switching between them.
Or my weak computer skills are just allowing me to get by and at least use 1 at a time to enjoy my old music 😜.
