Loose part ID help

I found this part on the floorboard of my front passenger side. It clearly looks like it pushes on to something. The long thin section has an o-ring on the end and slides back and forth. No clue here.

Its from the right side of the glove box. Look for posts on removing your glove box to clean the filter behind it and you will see how to reattach it. Or click the link....

Nailed it. Thanks. Clearly it wasn't reinstalled when the shop changed the cabin filter.
Looks like you might need new damper.

You should be able to put it back together. Mine came apart a couple of times when I changed the filter.
Hopefully you can reconnect it to the damper tube. The mechanic may not have known that you have to unsnap (disconnect) the linkage as part of the box removal to access the cabin filter. If the mechanic tried to force the glove box open, the damper can be damaged.
