Lost Compass & Navigation Today

RTL-E. 3700 miles. About 5 minutes after leaving work, I noticed that there was no compass display on my instrument panel. I scrolled through the various screens: Trip A, Trip B, Tire Pressure, etc., were fine, but no compass. I tried pulling-up Navigation on the radio unit, but it froze for about a minute before returning a Garmin map error. I tried pulling-up Navigation with voice recognition, but I got the same Garmin map error. After about 20 minutes of fiddling, I pulled off the side of the road, and did the infamous "Japanese reset," by turning off the ignition and restarting. The compass and Navigation resumed. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Explanation? Solution?

BTW..The "Japanese reset" is known to works every time !
Welcome to the world of Bill Gates. Unfortunately this is what it is. I have yet to experience this issue on the RL however the last 4 vehicles with nav systems I have owned this has happened to them all once in a blue moon so to say. Just needs a reboot every now and then.

It's an Android-based computer, not Microsoft. :)
