Maintenance

Honda's being very simple to do oil changes, tranny, diff services, etc. Do you do your own or use the dealership? With my wife's Pilot I have used the dealership since so far I find them reasonable for the services they do and figure if there's ever an issue they can verify the car was maintained per their specs. On the other hand I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I maintained myself since the dealer was a pain and just never gave me the warm and fuzzies, same wth my R52 Mini Cooper.

I do my own because I don't trust the lowest paid kid in the shop to do it right.

Since I build hot rods and restore old cars I have all the equipment and knowledge to do my own. Don't trust dealer shops to do much.

Plan to do my own and use the dealer for warranty work.

Uncertain when to change the oil the first time. I will use Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 Oil Filter. Usually do it around 750-1000 miles the first time. Just today, my Oil Life Monitor went to 90% at about the time I turned over 500 miles. I am uneasy letting the truck tell me when to do the oil changes.
Resist the temptation to go early on the first one. There are special goodies in the oil.

I am at 5,000 miles and my truck is telling me my oil is at 50% or so. Should I really go by that? Even if it starts diminishing quicker, I could still be over 7,000 miles for my first oil change.
Honda has said it does not use break in oil. I don't know of anyone that uses break in oil anymore. Maybe in the 1950's they did.

As for when to change it. They use a semi-synthetic in the RL2. If you want to change it go ahead. I don't think there's anything to worry about with changing it early. And if you really want to know what is going on send a sample to a place for oil analysis and you'll know for sure. I've used Blackstone labs myself in the past on my Ford 1900. Up to you. You own it now.

Steve who's going to wait till the message comes on for the 1st one and take it to the dealer for that along with some warranty repairs on the slow windows and bleed the brakes along with a rotation of tires and a front end alignment (and anything else that comes up between now and then... I'm at 5500 mi right now so it won't be long) oh, and I'm going to bitch at them (ok, discuss) the lousy radio bluetooth interaction that sucks and make them write it down on the work order so someone at Honda has to see it. And if I can escalate that problem I'm going to try and see if they can't resolve the goofy operation of having to press the button on the radio to answer calls on my iphone 6. It's just stupid the operation of how bluetooth works on it. (unless it's just my phone and then I'll apologize for my insensitivity lol)

Oh, and for all those who are thinking of changing their own oil. Remember, you'll mess up the maintenance schedule by changing early. At the very least I would suggest changing the oil at 50% and then when the other 50% is used up according to the trip computer you can change it again and reset the counter. You'll still know exactly where you are changing it at but at least you won't mess up the reset system for how it works on the car. Not that it matters of course as those idiot lights will still come on for other maint items but at least you'll know when you changed it in the middle of the intervals.

my iphone 7plus is the same - have to press button on screen; even when i do an outgoing call. i think the button says "transfer". so i have to pay attention to my phone for when the person picks up and then hit transfer on the radio screen. so they end up saying "hello" a couple of times because of the dang delay. totally lame!

At least the BT picks up your voice! I think the noise cancellation partially cancels out my voice, especially when going down the freeway. I must sound like background noise. Probably not untrue....lol
