Sometimes this is caused by rain getting in through the inner side sills if the rubber grommets are not installed. There is also a thread somewhere about door drains getting blocked and the mold smell coming from the bottom of the windows.

Goodness, yes. My '99 Regal had a terrible odor problem most of its life. In wet or humid weather, it was best to not roll down a window else a horrible sour, moldy smell would enter the cabin. I never could find the cause.
