Has anybody heard that Honda is raising the MSRP on 2017 Ridgelines? I'm trying to negotiate a deal on ordering an RTL-T AWD & the salesman is saying the dealership doesn't want to do that because of the price increase. (Even if the price IS going up, I'm not sure how that would affect a deal signed now.) Anyway, just wondering if I'm being fed a line of bull. Thanks for any replies.

They just had a small price increase of like $100 or so dollars in January. I would venture to say that if there will be another increase it will be along those lines, but in my limited experience I have not seen Honda have two price increases in one model year. My suggestion is that you stand your ground if you believe that having a set price is the right way for you. The caveat to this is that Honda could put some incentive ( however doubtful) at some point and the price would change. I think that the dealer does not want to lock a price since the price market could change. For example, the E's a few months back were non existent, now they are plentiful so they are willing to roll on price. This dealer seems to think that they don't want to loose on what market pricing could or could not be.

The T has always been plentiful, the only thing in the past was that the AWD models were scarce in some areas of the country like in the SE of the country. Don't fall for the hogwash, the T is a good compromise... plenty around.
If you wanted and RT then that's a rare truck, AWD RT could be even rarer.

It seems that if you want to get a good deal (in exchange for exactly what you what when you want...) playing the waiting game and buying something in inventory is the best way to do so. Dealers will say anything. We had one tell us they were the only ones in the area with Ridgelines on the lot, as if we didn't have the internet and were physically sitting at another dealership with 6 in front of us. We also had some tell us they were not going to go below MSRP, and so within a day or so we left with one anyway, just over 4k below MSRP at another place.

2017 Ridgeline Invoice Pricing Post#15

Looks like the Invoice price went up about $90. If the dealer wants out @ $90, they are probably already have a sucker for more than they sold it to you for, people are getting close to Invoice Pricing, Might want to shop some more.

Agree with continuing to shop. And if you do find a RL at another dealer you can always work a deal & see if this dealer will match or best it. If they won't then you're better off doing business elsewhere.

I see two RTL-E models on dealers lots within 200 miles radius of me. Plenty of T's everywhere on the lots, though.

My nearest dealer has 335 new Hondas on the lot and only ONE Ridgeline. They are not dealing.

I have a dealer 70 miles away willing to sell an RTL-T AWD for $491 below invoice (assuming the NADA invoice numbers are accurate). My local guy is at $380 over invoice (so an almost $900 difference). My hangup is trying to get service for a truck bought elsewhere.

In my neck of the woods… 13 within 50 miles and 32 within 250 miles. Thats using cars dot com… and I know that not every honda dealer in florida uses that site…

I have never run into a service dept that wouldn't take my money. They don't care where you bought it but if its just you're hangup, you could always ask the dealer not to put their tag on it making it less obvious where you bought it.
Thanks DSERVIT. What you say makes sense, I'm just sometimes a pessimistic worrier . . .
I just totaled my RTL-T unfortunately... called around and everyone said they couldn't give me a price a dollar below $36k... I then went online to every dealer within 100 mils (12) and used their inventory to select the RTL-T for an online price quote, which arrived for most in my email within a few minutes, though some came the next day. I had some that stuck around 36k, but others dropped somewhat, and finally two that went all the way down to $34,135 and the best, $34,020... I then went back to the only dealer that had the color I want (forest mist) and they price matched plus $250, so final price was $33,780... Didn't take much work and saved myself $2500... no real haggling involved whatsoever...

where are you from joseph?
I am doing a similar thing now as well
I just went to my closest dealer and negotiated my price for a white/beige RTL-E. It's pretty funny haggling for something they didn't even have on the lot! Once that was settled they went about locating one - ~10 days later I drove it home.
It is absolutely no issue getting Dealer Invoice or a little below in Western NY. Get 2 Honda dealers involved in the last week of almost any month and if there are RLs on the lot, they'll negotiate about the same as any Honda model.

The dealer HOLD BACK (or sometimes called 'Flooring') on Hondas is a little complicated. It is 2% of the BASE MODEL's MSRP, so for the Ridgeline, that is $29,475 (Base RT) x 2% = $589.50. This $589.50 is REGARDLESS of RL trim level.

$589.50 is what they make on paper IF they sell you AT Dealer Invoice. That obviously doesn't include back end rebates from Honda for the dealer or spiffs the rep may get but dealer invoice is usually a fair compromise on an in stock vehicle.

I work with a Hyundai dealer - send him business, etc - and our deal is we SPLIT the HOLD BACK (which on a Hyundai is 3% of MSRP for the specific car/SUV you are buying).

This is all available info...the dealers just assume no one looks it up...

Is this for a FWD or AWD?

I drive by a Honda dealership on my way to work. They show more RL's on cars.com than they have on their lot. I think they list the ones on order, because those have a generic picture.

HOLDBACK is 3% off of MSRP not including the shipping. So the amount would be a little higher depending on model. For example the HOLDBACK on my RTL-T AWD was a little over $1300 if I remember correctly. (sorry, I don't have the paperwork in front of me).

None the less I'm glad you posted this, this is great information to share with everyone. I have also posted this in the past but like everything on the boards... it gets buried after a while.

True at times, however down here in South Florida it has been pretty accurate for those dealers that do use cars dot com. However, there are quite a few dealers that don't use cars dot com and it may actually be more than what you see online. Its a good tool to begin with, once you find the vehicle then I would go to the dealer website and then make contact with the dealer.

I've been using cargurus.com. I took a look on cars.com and it's much the same info.

Currently, within 200-mile radius, there are 2 BE, 3 E, 6 T, 6 RTL and 2 Sport trims. If i go out to 250-mile radius, i pick up the Twin Cities and get 5 BE, 9 E, 18 T, 11 RTL, 7 Sport, 1 S and zero RT trims. I don't think this gets the entire MSP MSA, though.

I'm not driving 200 miles just to go truck shopping. If I am there for another reason, I will go shopping. But dealers are all too willing to back out on a deal, especially if they figure out you've driven five hours to close that deal.

Hmmm...I got this off the most recent program listing on hold back but could be wrong of course...see below for the full brand listing I had from April 2017. I LIKE 3% BETTER of course...
