I have the 2017 RTL-E in case it matters. In any event, I notice that there is a small bracket that's welded to the bottom center of the rear "axle". The bracket in question is clearly visible from the rear of the vehicle when looking underneath and it has a hole in the middle.

Anyone know what this bracket is ir whats it's for?

On Gen 1s, there is an L-shaped bracket that is used as an optional jacking point centered on the rear suspension assembly. It has a hole on each side of the "L".

that is to hook a tow strap to so you can tow Chevy's, fords, toyotas and nissans when they break down.
