With our 2019 if I hammer the brakes the anti-lock system will engage, as far as I know that is getting the most out of our brakes? So, if that statement is true, then knowing that I can get the maximum braking if or when I ever need it, it is just a matter of getting comfortable with the "feel" during normal driving, at least, what I can say is that our brakes have never failed to stop us as needed.

I just moved from a 2007 CR-V to a 2023 RTL-E. I can certainly tell the RL is heavier. Comparing the size of the rotors you can see it is must more robust. Seems ok to me.

As for your wife's CR-V having better acceleration than your RL, besides the weight different, you have more torque. There is a different acceleration curve and transmission shifting curve.

I would say our brakes have yet to fail us. We were a full car load on the way back from the airport and went from 50-0, in like 3 seconds, in the span of 3 dashes (~120 feet) on the freeway. Although brakes may feel mushy, it stopped us in a hurry.

Agreed, too much dead zone until they grab, my number one complain
I was complaining about this in 2016. Some that updated to newer versions of the g2 have reported the pedal feel was improved. Yes, the brakes do the job but you lose precious time pressing the pedal with nothing happening which can make all the difference between a near miss and a collision. I like cars that are quick to respond to brake, throttle and steering inputs. Makes for a much better driving experience.

I almost rear ended another vehicle for this exact reason. There was plenty of space between us, but when I hit the brakes it was like nothing was happening until I mashed the pedal.

Anyone else think the Ridgeline brakes could be better? My wife's 2021 CR-V brakes much firmer and of course, she can outrun me as her 4 cylinder more lively, she also gets about 8-9 mpg better than me as well... lol
The brakes on my 2020 suck! Every time I go to the dealer I complain and they say the same thing. "That's normal" I say B.S.! I have to double pump the breaks at every stop and they are soft and I fear, even at slow speeds the truck is not going to stop in time to keep from hitting the car in front of me a traffic light.

Wow! Mine are “fine”. I definitely do not have to double pump. Mine is a 2021. Wonder why the discrepancy in people’s experience.

I too have to double pump my 2023 brakes to get a high firm pedal. Inexcusable for a brand new vehicle!

I agree that the G2 brakes are soft, mushy, spongy, and travel a bit before engaging. Same for my 2019 and 2022. I test drove a Passport and it had a firm pedal!! The only thing I can think of the cause is the master cylinder which should be the same as Passport's and Pilot's. I am wondering if there is a different spring&rod that applies pressure to the master cylinder. I don't know if the brake pedal rod is solid all the way into the master cylinder. If there is different master cylinders, I would like to get one from a Passport or Pilot! Does any of you readers have access to parts list the 3 vehicles to compare??

I've become accustomed to the need for excessive pedal force to stop quickly. What does still frustrate me is the weak parking brake. It will not hold the weight of the vehicle on many driveways, especially when facing uphill. It requires heavily loading the parking pawl in the transmission, which really bothers me.

And you all are still driving these dangerous vehicles, really?

Honestly, if I had known those brakes were that 'light', as good as the truck is, I don't think I would have purchased it. The bad thing about the car/truck shortage on lots is that you cannot drive them. It is almost like 'buy first' and 'drive later'. I relied on Edmunds.com to point out the pros and cons, and they failed on the brakes. Doesn't even come up in their review. Oh well, I guess I am a fellow tanner of the brakes now. lol
