new exhaust sound

6023 Views 14 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Jason B
been thinking about putting in a new muffler and cutting the old one out but I don't want to do a full exhaust system replacement just the muffler

anybody have any suggestions on which one to get?

been thinking about the thrush turbo muffler, cherry bomb glasspack, or a flow master..I'm looking for a throaty sound, no ricer fart can noises, just a deep loud throaty sound.

any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!!

Just search the forum and you'll get plenty of hits. It's a V6, so IMO deep and throaty are not really feasible. Here's a link to one discussion. Note the video posted by mcfoss1. Probably one of the better sounding Ridgelines but not sure I love it.

YouTube has plent of vids; search and ye shall find.
Yea you wont get deep or throaty out of this motor. Check out the flowmaster dbx. I have just the muffler with a custom 2.5" side exit. I think the full exhaust sounds nice. If I were to do it again I would go with 2.25 piping, I think it would sound even better.
Squeeze a little 289 V8 in there & share all the adapters you used to make it work! That'll get the sound you're looking for! :act024:

Don't laugh,I race sbf's and have seriously considered the idea.......between Bourbon shots.
I'm back sponsoring this forum again and am running a killer deal on the full Gibson catback exhaust. Both the stainless and aluminum versions.
Full warranty since we are an "Authorized Gibson Dealer", and lifetime warranty on stainless.
Those that want a great system at a great price, order soon! Ends this friday 8/28.

I bought the Flowmaster dBX and I couldn't be happier.
Sounds great- like a truck should sound, not a rice rocket.
It provides a deep, throaty sound on acceleration. Combined with my intake; throttle response, acceleration and power have increased noticeably.

Cost me $574 and I installed myself.

50 year old Ford engine in a RL... intriguing.
You know we need a sound clip on this muffler. Have someone lay down in the bed and film it as you gun it. How about your fuel mileage? And positive or negative impact?

How much for the aluminum version of the Gibson?
Jason, I've been kicking around the idea of going with the Gibson, but I had a couple of questions.

1.) how is it for sound/drone at highway speed?

2.) in the pictures, it looks like the tip protrudes quite a bit from the bumber (something I'm not a fan of) Is it just the angle of the pictures, or does it stick out a couple of inches?
1) Well, this is what I like about Gibson. I've sold every system pretty much there is. Gibson is the the quietest our of them all. In a good way though. A good mellow sound, without being too loud. I've never had anyone that I can remember ever telling me it was too loud, so I think you don't have to worry.

2) The tip has adjustment before you tighten the screw in it.

3) This is an incredible deal.
