Without ever driving or riding in a Honda. I always thought, Hondas has a sterling reputation, bar none .

Also, Besides my introduction ,this is a first test to post, see if I got this post working right...Very hard to register, jumping thru all kinds of hoops and security,,.(not a troll)so please don't flame me...:crying:

Get the Ridgeline and don't look back. This forum is a cancer, it's full of whiners and complainers.

Seriously.

This is the way it is on forums, most of the posters are nice people asking question about informative things. I was going to get real nasty here and talk about those that complain, but after reading many post you will see what really is a problem and what isn't. Draw your own conclusions with an open mind, Honda didn't become the company it is today by manufacturing inferior products.

Forums tend to attract people that have high level of interest in whatever the forum is about. A vehicle, RV, ATVs, etc. Many get way to involved and think they are experts and are quick to make sure everyone is exposed to their opinion. I am on one related to SXS vehicles, every time a person posts a question asking for advice or how to fix something, they get barraged with people tryIng to sell you some junk not even related. Gave up on that! This one is fairly well focused imho and is helpful. I agree that signing up is a real pain, I almost gave up.

I know my initial comment wasn't very productive, just had to get it out :)

Honestly though, look at ANY forum, you can find issues with every vehicle on the market. I've most recently visited f150forum and this one because I was comparing the two. You'll notice many many many threads at F150 of people talking about SERIOUS problems... really rough shifting transmissions, warping dashboards (very common), vibrating front ends, dead engines, the list goes on. It's a nightmare over there. Now understand that Ford sells about a million of those trucks every month, and it's not as scary. You see tons of people there defending the F150 in the face of serious issues, it's quite different than here. I believe it's because the expectations are higher for Honda.

Now come here and compare, there's only a handful of RL's on the road. As far as I can tell, no one (maybe one?) has been stranded, you have one guy claiming lemon law (and he's kinda nuts if you look into it) and that's about it for serious stuff. No car is perfect. You'll hear all kinds of people talking about their 94 Civic that went a 900,000 miles without an oil change but now their new RL nav screen reset on them once when they connected their flaming Samsung Note to it and Honda suddenly has forgotten how to build a car. Take it all in stride. I joined this forum before the G2 came out and there were complaints about the quality before anyone had even seen one in person! That is telling. I've seen people here voting in owner polls that don't even own a G2, people starting threads about the G2 being problematic when they don't even own one, there are some bored and suspect people here. There is soooo much bad information in here mixed in with some good, don't take any of this as gospel.

Honda created a truck that is perfect for my (and many many others) needs. It handles like a sedan from 10 years ago and the ride is as close to Lexus like as it gets in a truck. It is very impressive IMHO. You'll see tons of people here bitter about the armrests though :) I'm as picky and cautious as they come and I've got no problem buying a '17 G2, I'm just waiting for the prices to get a little better. Get the vehicle that works for you and live your life!

What you say is very good assumption of fourms, I will end it at that. When it comes to prices, good prices are out there you just have to look for them, now are you going to get $2000-$3000 off a Honda or Acura, probably never. Models like CR-V's and Accord's end of the year maybe some discount, but don't look for much, Honda will give good finance rates as an incentive. As Honda has said, they only intend to build 42,000 Ridgeline's per year, pretty much sets the selling price.

I'm waiting for my Lunar Silver Sport to get here, hopefully around Oct 10th, but I'm also getting a little nervous after reading all these posts about tailgate issues, braking issues, radio issues etc etc etc. I'm hoping these are just a tiny percentage of vehicles, and that I will be loving mine! Maybe I should stop reading all these posts and just enjoy the anticipation of my upcoming new ride?

*Sigh*

Sorry, but this is just more bad information. I've seen this myth perpetuated by many, the dealers thank you. Maybe you are a dealer? :)

I've personally bought 3 NEW Honda's in the last 10 years, all Accords.

07 EX-L V6 @ $7.5k off sticker (last model year when 08's had hit the lot), first quote I got actually, no one else in the state would match or beat.
08 EX-L V6 Coupe manual, $4.5k off sticker, right after I got the 07 and regretted no manual, sold the 07 to a relative, had to go out of state for the coupe (some dealers wanted sticker), dealer traded with another to get it, rare and new model.
15 Sport manual, $5.5k off sticker.

None of these deals had more than a $400 dealer fee and NO dealer add-ons or other fees/warranties/maintenance plans. Trust me, I look at every penny of a transaction, I've walked out of many showrooms, I've left over $80 before (lying dealer). I didn't trade in with any of the deals and I financed through Honda each time at less or equal to 1.9% (maybe 2.9% on the earlier models when rates were a bit higher).

Aside from the coupe, none of these deals required much effort.

I've also gotten my dad and friends great deals on Honda's with the same details, no trade in's, no add ons or high rates. Just had a friend get $7.5k off a new Odyssey. Mid range model, forget the trim.
I've also gotten better and similar deals on other makes, Ford, Nissan, BMW, Lexus (I have a new car problem).

I've got to get off these forums, they make my head spin.

EDIT: I'll also throw in a note about the "good finance rates as an incentive". You can get 1.5% - 1.9% from almost any local credit union right now. Do the math and see what makes sense when you buy a new car (i.e. OEM cash back vs finance incentive).

The tailgate is a relatively easy fix if you are handy (or have a friend who is handy)...see BillmanMotion's "200 mile update..." post.

Braking issues seem sporadic, and are probably as much based on user preference as anything else. Rest assured that they will work fine. If I find the brakes to feel too soft for my liking, I will 1) bleed the brakes, 2) upgrade the pads, 3) switch to braided SS brake lines, in that order.

Which radios are having problems? Biggest issues with upscale radios are lack of physical dial/knob (may be available on next year model), glare (fixed with proper screen protector), and people having phone issues (are they issues with the phone? Or the head unit? Or AA/Carplay?). The technology on the upscale head units should get updated over time so that they do not become "outdated", and offer a better user experience, at least from a software standpoint. For the lower-end head units (radios), the hope is that they can be easily upgraded to an aftermarket version, but that has yet to play out. Several forum members are working on it....let's see what they come up with.

TL;DR: I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new RL, if they only had some in available in my area that I am interested in, and were willing to deal just a little...

Agree with you on securing financing at a credit union ahead of time, and as someone that has haggled thousands off cars in the past, including $5k off a new 2013 Accord Sport (when the lot was still full of 2012s), I hear what you are saying.

But the RL is different. Unlike the Accord which is cranked out of the Marysville plant like candy, production in Lincoln AL is limited and split between the Odyssey, Pilot, MDX and RL. Even high volume dealers are only getting a few a week or month, many of them pre-sold. It seems only the FWDs are sitting on a lot for any length of time. Some models like the RTL-E in specific colors are nearly impossible to find. Sure, there are cases on this forum where someone got a great deal, one got a few thousand off on a BE because it was inaccurately advertised and they honored the deal.

There is a new Odyssey on the way which probably helped your friends deal along. Honda dealers future inventory allocation is based on sales volume so they may have lost a few dollars on his van to ensure more allocation for the new model.

I'm not saying it could never be done, and I wish you luck, but getting $5k-7K off a Ridgeline is definitely not the norm.

*Sigh again*

Please read!

I didn't say to expect to get $5-$7k off of a new Ridgeline. My examples were in response to the blanket statement of not being able to get more than a few thousand off of ANY Honda or Acura. People without experience (OP who's "new to Honda") might read these statements, absorb them, and end up over paying like the poster who made that statement.

If you can get a RL at invoice right now you are doing better than 99% of people. That's my goal, and it's why I don't have a RL right now. If I see others getting that, my goal will be a slightly bigger discount.

What Longboat said. And just about everybody else in this thread. Don't hesitate to buy the new Ridgeline. It's a blast to drive, it's filled with great innovation, and it's a truck. What's not to like? There's been nothing major wrong with it except for in a few instances. Like you said yourself, the percentages of the few big problems we've had are very small from what I can tell. Forums always magnify the negative and gloss over the positive. It's human nature. But ask any anybody on this forum, we all love this vehicle. Don't think twice.

The US sport is only made in black, while the Canadian version is available in various colors as mertz44 stated. Had the US version been available in different colors, I would be driving one now instead of waiting for the RTL-T I ordered to show up. I am not a fan of black on black on black (wheels). It is worth a look at the Canadian web site to see the differences. I am still trying to figure out how to get new rear seating with heaters. My wife's employer in headquartered in the Toronto area so, maybe I can finagle some parts somehow.

Got that right. I have had only a couple minor issues with my RTL-E and really like it so far, even compared to my 06 G1 that I kept for 10 years and sure as hell compared to any vehicle I have had in close to 50 years of driving. Always gonna be a few lemons and always gonna be forum whiners and trolls. Name of the game.
