Anyone have any examples of a bed step that does not utilize the hitch receiver?

Some examples would be the Toyota fold out corner step, the AMP Research brand flip down step or even a step just rear of the rear doors.

Reason is that I am often hauling a kayak with the tailgate down and the hitch is occupied by a bed extender. When I need to jump in the back to tie it down, I have to resort to using the rear tire as a step. It works but it's sketchy sometimes with wet/muddy feet. The Gen 1's buttress design also isn't helping but I ain't mad.

I'm afraid my only option will be to do running boards/nerf bars and hope they have a 3rd, farther back step. I haven't felt a need for them as I have no trouble getting in the truck without them.

Thanks in advance!
