I recently overhauled my '08 Ridgeline brakes and so far I'm liking it.

at 50k miles, my rear pads were done, so I was going to replace the pads and rotors. Got Hawk LTX pads, X-drilled and slotted rotors (brake performance.com) for the rears.
Then I realized I had a set of DOT stianless steel braided brake lines in my garage for the Ridgeline from Techna-Fit.com ... and my fluid was almost 6 yrs old anyway. Hmm.. I have some Pentosin blue racing brake fluid on my shelf... so why not.

I swapped on '10 Pilot calipers and rotors (these are the biggest production rotors Honda makes... same as MDX rotors) onto my '09 Odyssey, and was very pleased with the upgraded braking power... so curiosity got to me and I ordered oem Pilot front calipers and pads once again... this time for my Ridgeline.

Overall, its a perfect swap. 100% bolt on. It's no harder than changing brake rotors. The Pilots rotors, pads, and calipers (2 pistons) are all slightly bigger than the Ridgeline's. I'd say maybe 10-15% at most. they also fit under 17" wheels just fine.

After bedding the pads in... I noticed some improvement right away. It wasnt as dramatic as my Odyssey, but still noticeable.
The pedal effort is actualy a tad lighter now. Not mushy.. just lighter than stock, but with this lighter pedal effort, you can come to a stop easily. I didnt do any slam stops yet, but with some aggressive braking tests, the difference was noticeable. I actually have to consciously get on the brakes a little bit later at intersections... or else Im stopping a tad earlier before the lines. Basically I'm braking a little later now, while using less foot effort.

Not bad... because I do tow, so I feel I've raised the threshold of my brakes with the combination of bigger calipers, rotors, pads, SS lines, and race fluid. Peace of mind I guess.

If you ever have to buy new front pads and rotors... for less than $350 more, you can upgrade to Pilot calipers.

Dang this makes me wish my truck had 50,00 miles on it. Hopefully I'll remember this thread a few years from now.

Note that the current gen Pilot and last Gen MDX discs will work with the Ridgeline. The new MDX has gone back to 114.3 MM stud spacing, so that wont work. I'm assuming the next gen Pilot will go the same way.

Are you sure about that? I did a search for wheels on Tire Rack and brake rotors on Autozone.come and I come up with the Second Gen (current gen-2010) Acura MDX uses 5X120 stud spacing and the First gen (2006 and earlier) used a 5X114.

I believe you might have gotten them switched around.

With regards to brakes or the use of the truck overall?

If you do a lot of stop and go and short trips, you will not be pleased with the mpg. But I think that would be mostly true with any truck.
If you are talking about reliability, given regular maintenance that should not be a problem with a Honda.

Not sure if that was in response to my question or not. But I already own the truck and have over 20k on it. So worrying about mileage and such....well that shipped already sailed...lol. I was just wondering if it would fit on the '13? The thread started with the swap being done on an '08.

Thankx, Dan

This mod will work on all Rls

08-13 MDX have same 120mm stud spacing as RL. 09-14 Pilot has 120mm to. The smaller stud spacing exists on 01-07 MDX, 03-08 Pilot and 14 plus Mdx. I'm assuming the 15 plus pilot will flip back to the smaller stud spacing. The current and last gen Odyssey uses 120mm to

I would like to have someone swap out my brakes for larger ones, so I need a shopping list. To do the brakes on a 2011 RTS what parts would I need? Are Acura MDX better than the Honda pilot ones? Thanks guys.

How did you know what year to order? I have a 2012 Ody, i want to upgrade also but not sure if the calipers will just bolt on.

Thanks
Rob
PS I am surprised the pilot has bigger brakes than the ridgeline...

09-11 Are safe years to order, though I know they were produced before and after that.. As long as it's from a 2ND Gen pilot or mdx, its a direct fit. It's been debated, but my research determined that mdx calipers were bigger, so I opted for them. I plan to upgrade my rear brakes as well, hopefully in December. I'll follow up with my results.

Hey JP422, where did you order the Pilot calipers from? Did you just go to the dealer or get them online? What year calipers did you get?
If you happen to know someone that works at the dealership, that's your best bet as their discount is huge. If not, oem parts sites like acurapartsforless.com or hondapartsnow.com have the best prices I've found. If you're willing to risk buying used or remanufactured (calipers), ebay is another economical alternative.
