I recently overhauled my '08 Ridgeline brakes and so far I'm liking it.
at 50k miles, my rear pads were done, so I was going to replace the pads and rotors. Got Hawk LTX pads, X-drilled and slotted rotors (brake performance.com) for the rears.
Then I realized I had a set of DOT stianless steel braided brake lines in my garage for the Ridgeline from Techna-Fit.com ... and my fluid was almost 6 yrs old anyway. Hmm.. I have some Pentosin blue racing brake fluid on my shelf... so why not.
I swapped on '10 Pilot calipers and rotors (these are the biggest production rotors Honda makes... same as MDX rotors) onto my '09 Odyssey, and was very pleased with the upgraded braking power... so curiosity got to me and I ordered oem Pilot front calipers and pads once again... this time for my Ridgeline.
Overall, its a perfect swap. 100% bolt on. It's no harder than changing brake rotors. The Pilots rotors, pads, and calipers (2 pistons) are all slightly bigger than the Ridgeline's. I'd say maybe 10-15% at most. they also fit under 17" wheels just fine.
After bedding the pads in... I noticed some improvement right away. It wasnt as dramatic as my Odyssey, but still noticeable.
The pedal effort is actualy a tad lighter now. Not mushy.. just lighter than stock, but with this lighter pedal effort, you can come to a stop easily. I didnt do any slam stops yet, but with some aggressive braking tests, the difference was noticeable. I actually have to consciously get on the brakes a little bit later at intersections... or else Im stopping a tad earlier before the lines. Basically I'm braking a little later now, while using less foot effort.
Not bad... because I do tow, so I feel I've raised the threshold of my brakes with the combination of bigger calipers, rotors, pads, SS lines, and race fluid. Peace of mind I guess.
If you ever have to buy new front pads and rotors... for less than $350 more, you can upgrade to Pilot calipers.
