Pioneer AVH series Auto-Dimmer

I just installed the Pioneer AVH-X5700BHS.

Upon wiring, there was a dimmer wire from the unit that I neglected. There was no matching wire to the harness. Orange/white wire I believe.

After checking crutchfield.com I realized that it does support auto-dimming:

"Dimmer: To prevent the touchscreen display and button illumination from being too bright at night, the display is automatically dimmed when the car's headlights are turned on. The automatic dimmer function only works when the orange/white illumination wire in the wiring harness is connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit."

So please help me out with 2 questions:

1. If you have the dimmer connected, is it a good feature to have or should I just leave it as is with no auto-dimmer?

2. Based on the description above, how to I wire it directly to the headlight circuit? I think I need to extend the orange/white wire to the headlight switch on the left side of the dash and wire it to the matching color?

I am an amateur, so please give as much detail as possible.

Thanks!!!

I had a Kenwood HeadUnit in my first RL and had the same issue.

Here is a thread that discusses same.....

when connected, the screen will dim when you turn your lights on, just as your factory did. connect the organe and white from the pioneer to the orange wire of the honda harness
Thank you for the replies!

I will try connecting the orange/white wire from the HU to the orange wire on the Metra harness.

I was just confused because first of all the colors don't match AND the descriptions don't either. Then cruchtfield says it has to be wired directly to the headlight unit circuit.

I will try attaching it next week. Can anyone else confirm this to ease my doubts? If it's wrong to connect those 2 wires, let me know ASAP. Don't want anything to fry.
Jimmy is correct, that is what I did and it works great, I was also worried about frying something but everything remains perfect 2 years later.
When installing my Pioneer HU, I used the supplied Metra wiring harness from Crutchfield.

Below is the metra diagram with my notes for the OEM wire color.

Not sure, if it is only a Pioneer issue or it applies to all, I read with Pioneers you use the Honda orange to Pioneer's orange white, with other HU brands, Honda orange and HU orange wire does the trick.

Correct me if I am wrong on this, that is what I remember.
